Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

They are pretty big on the blue line now. Only the #6 guy is small and he may not be on the club much longer. That's a bruising defense.

Problem is they're supposed to be good at hockey too.

That's not a problem in the least.

What they need is to replace Mete with a puck-moving offensive D. Or Kulak.

I forgot they are bringing in Romanov this year so one of Kulak or Mete are gone. I don't know which one.

Alexander Romanov
D | 5' 11" | 185 lb | Age: 20

I really miss Markov, badly. Why couldn't they have assembled a D like this while he was still playing?

They have talent though. Weber and Petry are solid, Chiarot proved he's better than what he was in Winnipeg, Edmundson is a wildcard still while Kulak has also proven he can play bottom pair. This D is better than people think.

Hoo boy. Not sure how I feel about this one. He definitely didn’t do them any favors, but they probably can’t live without him (lest they flirt with 29th overall next year instead of 26th), and it’s not like they’re going to be able to attract a big UFA to need to reserve the dollars, so I guess it was a must if they’re continuing with this idiotic retool. But what is the game plan here? Does being stuck with Price mean you just have to go for the Cup, no matter how bad you are? Do you lock up Tatar and Gallagher long term now?

LOF is the best Habs analyst ever.

Gallagher yes, Tatar no.

The back-end on this club is solid. The continuing question is who is going to put the puck in the net. The D and G is set. Let's hope they play like it. That's a lot of money on the back end.

I will also submit that every single team in the NHL would pay Jeff Petry $6.25M. Every single one. Including the Leafs.

If by best you mean biased tool then yes, I agree.

Ha. Irony much?

And still so aggressive. Yeesh.

Why do you need a 33 year old Petry? Were you close to doing something last year from 26th overall that you would sign him to an extension rather than trade him for some good young assets while his value is high?

Like I said, maybe you simply can’t blow it up if Price is stuck there, but it would seem to be a better move than locking up the few tradeable assets you have to waste away the next 4-5 years.

He's 32.

The minute you trade Petry you're trying to replace him. Thinking this is a bad move is so Leaf fan Hab hater. You can sip that tea on your own.

No word yet on whether there is a NMC involved. He had one on his old deal. No mention in the press release.
