I mean, the Petry deal is exactly the deal the Leafs are looking to make, to sign a key player to fill an area of need as the final piece. It’s why we’ve been talking Pietrangelo nonstop the past two weeks.

But that’s not a signing the Habs should be making.

Are you factoring in anything like flat cap, teams dumping salary etc? And you think the return on Petry this year will be what he's worth?

It's not stupid retaining your best D man and yes, he's better than Weber right now.

People like you would have traded Lidstrom or Chelios because something something age.

Ageism is the next social issue that will need to be dealt with because you youngins don't respect shit. A D is 32 or 33. TRADE HIM! A decision made without thought or analysis.

With no real scoring threats you think shoring up a good D isn't a move the Habs should make.

Personally I think giving AP up to $9M is exactly what the Leafs should do, even if it costs them ancillary players. AP will age well, as will Petry.
 
What does your gut say zeke? You know Petry's numbers (unlike LoF). Do you agree with Dom L that this is right in line?

I love how in a year with a flat cap, next year with a flat cap, several owners looking to sell their teams and people still think a gangbuster trade for Petry is an easy thing.

Oh yeah, the D will be getting old. I can't find any mention of a NMC with this deal. I'm wondering if they didn't give him one which means they could move him later if they want.
