Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Those deals were fine , it’s extending 11 that was the mistake

You don’t want albatross deals and he is exiting his prime when his contract kicks in

No doubt in my mind a team would of given the Habs a great trade
nah it is the anderson contract that is the risky one

also once the habs signed petry they decided it was all in for the next few years
habs are one of the best ES teams but need to figure out the PP (Petry over Weber would help)

Habsy reads through the american politics thread more furiously than ever nowadays, so angry that he handcuffed himself.

Lol. You pick on the one guy here that not only didn't criticize the Gallagher deal, but who has also been consistently the most positive about the Habs.

Ziggity ziggity.

Nice try, but no one has been more consistently positive about the Habs than me.

On an almost daily basis, I tell you all how positive I am that they are garbage.

HAHA you secretly love them and are worried your LA Bffs will convert you to the dark side.

I will say I think they've maybe improved, because I like the Toffoli signing. So it's an extra good body in the mix that pushes out junk.

But Domi for Anderson I think is going to be a disaster, Edmundson is garbage but will be celebrated because he's big, Allen was still a stupid move because you gave up assets for the most plentiful commodity in the UFA market and then added two extra years to him. Gallagher I have always liked but six years after this one seems destined to give you a broken player early on in that deal. Petry extended from 33-38 seems nuts. So I think you're maybe better than last year, but this isn't a formula for success.

I think they're awesome and can easily finish ahead of the Leafs next year (unlikely, but not impossible). But they are probably not going to win the cup. And they're clearly at least 2 elite pieces away from truly contending. Which would be fine if they weren't capped out.

But yeah, overall, I think they're really good.

they have a decent middling team. they could pass us if we get the type of goaltending we got last season again and the reconstructed bottom 6 fails to impress. I don't think that both will happen but you never know.

That's the case for most playoff bubble teams, and the Habs have been one player away from being one player away for the greater part of 25 years now.

I mean, if I'm a Habs fan I'd almost rather be horse shit to tank and at least have a chance to grab elite talent. But they're too good. They're an average-above average hockey team, much like the Leafs have been for the last few years. I do think the Leafs have improved enough to take the next step though. And personnel-wise they have the start talent that Montreal lacks. The hardest guys to get, and you can't really win without them.

Yeah I'm very mixed on them because they score like an elite team on the nerdies. But without star power it doesn't really mean dick all. Not sure why they continue to add middling talent.. There was a legitimate chance for them to get some offensive juice in the lineup this offseason and instead they gave all the money to a backup goalie, Edmunson and Anderson. Toffoli was their only good move and he won't move the star power needle; he's just more of what they already have.

For such a good team, their GM really likes to sabotage them. They're not as far off as most think. They need a "closer" GM. Clearly Bergevin ain't it.

Are the habs better with tofolli and anderson or would they have been better with hall and one one of the guys that gets ~$2M.
