Why not? The next time the league minimum salary gets a bump (probably when the CBA gets extended again after 25-26), you'll probably be able to bury nearly all of it in the AHL if you really wanted him gone and he had a few years left. Also, he's only 28, the contract ends when he's 33. He stands a really, really good chance of playing through the entire contract worth close to the 3 million, nevermind 1.5.
