Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Wasn't there a rule that if you reclaimed a player on waivers that they could immediately be sent down?

Only if there were no other claims. Apparently when Edmonton re-claimed him there was another team that also made a claim, so Edmonton couldn't send him to the minors, and had to run him through waivers again. The last time only Las Vegas made one, and then sent him down.

The one upside for the player is that every day he technically stays in the NHL because of these waiver shenanigans instead of being demoted to the AHL is another day where he's getting paid a pro-rated NHL salary, instead of his AHL salary.

Though still obviously wild on a human level to have your life and future jerked around and left in a state of uncertainty like this.
