Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Crap in crap out. Matheson is at the same level so stop with the crap. CheCheers
In the off-season you have more suitors as caps reset and rosters take shape. Teams who missed on UFA players have a nice option at a great contract for only 2 years. Perfect for a team all in or a bridge to help young D mature.

Plus you have a few months to play cap gymnastics before being compliant in day 1. He will have value at the deadline but limited to fewer teams who probably have weaker prospect pools or draft picks to offer. The heavy lifting moves are made in the off-season.

He'll have more value this summer too. Just admit you miscalculated and move on. Stop repeating something that just isn't true regarding Matheson. It's simple.

Maybe Matthews is a bit mental health related as well.
This is not a knock. But today's athlete is aware of so much more of their own mental health stresses, that the rest of us realize after 40😊or 50

For an example of this phenomenon, I always hearken back to my high school math class.

My regular teacher was a brilliant mathematician, but the idea that someone could watch her do problems on the blackboard at supersonic speed, do the homework she assigned and NOT intuitively understand the material without any further explanation was completely foreign to her. And being a dummy at math, I didn’t learn a goddamn thing that entire semester.

Except for the one single day that she was off sick, and our dummy, schlubby gym teacher who came to school in sweatpants every day filled in for her, and actually approached the lessons from the perspective or a normal person that had to learn how to do them. I learned more that single day than I learned the rest of the year.
The idea of a "brilliant" mathematician stuck teaching grade ten general math to some random Ontario high schoolers is hilarious.

Coaches are fired way too soon nowadays. Because teams can't make trades anymore

Eh...most coaches are wear items. When shit starts squeeking you just change your brakes and move on. Hockey really needs to start taking a page from NBA and Footy anyway where style of play is organizational and a coaches job isn't to implement a system/style of play of his choosing. It's to decide how best to implement how the more permanent members of the organization have decided they want the team to play. Everything should be a smooth transition between departments. Amatuer scouting should be identifying young players who fit the system to be drafted, player development should be taking them and moving them through the system towards playing for the big team, pro scouting should be identifying free agents who can play in your system, etc, etc.

In the NHL though for some reason a coach who probably won't last 3 years is given complete fucking autonomy to change whatever he wants, run whatever players he wants out of town, ask for retread bullshit from his previous teams to fill roles he's made up in his head as important, etc.

To be fair, I’m really fucking stupid when it comes to math, so my bar for being “brilliant” at mathematics isn’t exactly high.

And wasn’t there a famous high school science teacher in New Mexico who was a one of the all-time brilliant chemists? Heisen-something, I think his name was.

My grade 11 English teacher went to Cornell with condenses rice (no idea if that's how her name was spelt) and yes, he hated all of us as much as you would think.
