McDavid is not Kaprizov. He doesn’t need to play any silly waiting games or come up with any negotiating ploys to get paid what he wants.

He could step into Stan Bowman’s office anytime and offer to sign an extension for one year, eight years or any length of time in between, and for the maximum allowable individual player salary ($19.1M), and Bowman’s immediate response would be “yes sir Mr. McDavid, thank you sir Mr. McDavid”.

The only plausible reason this hasn’t happened yet is there is some other reason unrelated to term or money why McDavid is not willing to commit to staying in Edmonton for any longer than he is contractually obligated to.

I'm shocked he hasn't said the "I won't talk contact during the season" thing yet

I thought bowman was playing chicken on the years of the contract. But if he was doing that then McDavid already won.

Would be awesome if Bowmans legacy is losing McDavid.

i see the comparison but a couple things....

- Lacombe may be better than Hughes, and seems to be that projectible studhorse all around #1

- Hughes' contract starts this year, and only eats up 2 UFA years, expiring going into his 29yr old season.
- Lacombe's contract starts next year, and eats up 6 UFA years, expiring going in to his 33yr old season.

The cap and how much he can sign for will be higher in the summer than it is right now?

He wants to see if Edmonton is still a legit contender this season?

He plans on testing free agency and seeing which team is the best fit?

He's just waiting to sign with the Leafs and only wants to play for the Leafs?

Possibly some other reason that I can't even think of?

There are lots of reasons but the most likely at this point is that he wants out

Had a falling out with his BFF Leon.

Wants a short term contract that hasn't been offered yet.

Wants them to get rid of bowman because he's a rape enabler

We wants to retire after this season.

Wants to get away from Spector

Hates that he only averages 1:59 on each PP and not 2:00

I would take 8x 20 and remove any element of risk , gives me close to 300 mil in career earnings

Anytime you want out pick your fucken team with your full control
