That has been mentioned down here already, that they've proven they can win without Stamkos and will he be the one moved. I say no way. The guy has a full NMC.

They have no money for the back end.

Logically, it would make sense. I'm assuming Stamkos hasn't received his signing bonus for the upcoming season, he's owed a $8.5M signing bonus with $1M in actual salary for the upcoming season. If Tampa Bay is willing to eat that $8.5M, not only would Stamkos be easy to move, he'd get a great return too.

However, I'm not sure the logistics of moving him would be great. Legacy players almost never move unless it's the end of their careers.

I think he would agree to a new team

I'm looking at Tampa Bay's cap situation and they have nearly $30M in signing bonuses that are owed for the upcoming season.

If money's tight for the owner, then it might get dicey.

Well Markov was a sixth round pick so we've had some luck in the past as well. Primeau 7th round. Streit 7th round.

goalies I understand.
Markov was ages ago, and he was a forward playing in Russia
Streit was playing in Zurich and was 26 when we drafted him

Don't get me wrong, those are all great picks....but we seem to miss too many guys playing in the Q.

Those Quebec scouts that work for the Bolts are eating our lunch: Kucherov (2nd round) Gourde (undrafted) Palat (7h). Then again, all their scouts have been on fire in recent years.

Yeah it’s an embarrassment that the Habs can’t scout their own backyard. I mean come on, poach some scouts that have good track records already.

This is all fine revisionist history.

Kucherov was drafted out of Russia and slipped to the second round because of size. Their Quebec scout had nothing to do with it.

Gourde was first signed by San Jose before Tampa got their hands on him. According to him on La Presse, they asked him what he thought of the player once and that was all. He wasn't pushing them to sign him.

Palat was a 20 year old when they drafted him and he's a completely different player now than what he was in Junior. If he was anywhere near the player he is now, there's zero chance he would have lasted that long and they deserve full credit. Palat is the only eye-popping pick that scout made on the whole team. Do you want me to credit him for taking Cedric Paquette? Fine player and all, but he's a third/fourth liner.

Tampa Bay also had Jonathan Marchessault in their organization and let him go for nothing, decided to take Drouin over Seth Jones... You can find some major mistakes there too. The same Quebec scout couldn't convince them to take Samuel Girard in 2016 despite picking 3 times before he was taken and all three players will be depth NHLers at best, all assuming he wanted him.

Every organization is going to "miss" players in their backyard by nature because it's impossible to know for sure what you're getting when you drafting 18 year olds. Making sure you don't "miss" players in your backyard is paramount to simply ignoring the rest of the planet to make sure you just draft to the point >50% of your players selected are from the Q.

of course there is luck involved but you don't build a cup winner without being smart...Habs are not a smart org.

Sure. But the love their Quebec scout is getting is baffling to me.

Outside of the Palat pick, of which he deserves full credit, he didn't have much to do with the roster. Kucherov wasn't his pick, Killorn wasn't his pick, Gourde wasn't his pick or even his recommendation. He's responsible for Palat, Paquette, Joseph and Barré-Boulet. The latter two didn't play in the playoffs.

Their Russian scout, who got them Kucherov and Vasilievsky, deserves very high marks.

The WHL scout who got them Brayden Point deserves a major raise. The OHL scouts that got them Cirelli in the third round, A+. They got players from everywhere to fit in on their teams for the last few years.
