Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Still too early to call it either way really.

They are playing above expectations right now. It's fun, I like seeing the kids succeed.

Ottawa' backend is young. They play like I expected the Habs to play this year with four rooks.

Habs D > Sens D.

Still amazed at how poised Guhle is and how smart Harris is with the puck. Harris is older sure but he's efficient with the puck like Markov was, I just don't know if the same offense is there like Markov.
True but our goalies have been hiding a lot of mistakes too

Positive environment helps a lot. Everyone felt the weight of the air around Bergevin the past couple of years. Word was Harris wasn't intending to sign with the Habs. Enter Boston boy Gorton and his Montreal/Boston buddy Hughes and Harris changes his mind. That was big for us. It's also why I believe Farrell will sign too.

Also, Harris' agent might have looked at the d-corp, and told his client that he'd probably get more icetime with Habs than with his other options

That wasn't a guarantee though. He got the opportunity and is running with it, great to see.

No one is excusing what this kid did but it’s not Ray Lewis level, is it? I doubt anyone in Bruins management is getting fired. They screwed up and then they corrected their error. Move on.
Krust, you and I just see the world differently due to our training. We see that players who killed others had full careers. We also know juvies get less punishment due to age.

I also suspect that if the victim were white Aliu and others would have said nothing. Many people see using racial slurs as worse than murder these days. Miller was an asshole but also 6-14 yrs old when it happened.

The damage that that kind of bullying has done to the victim is something that will follow him until he dies. Remember he was also 6-14 when this was going on. Even without the media racial spin, it's still horrific.

That being said, is it right to take away a career over something done at 14 with many structures of the brain still undeveloped? At that age, the fault is clearly on the parents and the environment they provided as he grew up. If only there was a way to hold his parents accountable.

I also don't like that the victims parent is using this to further her own victimhood. It doesn't provide any benefit and only further traumatizes her son.

Tragic situation all around imo.

Miller was still harassing the victim on Instagram and Snapchat everyday until he answered in the middle of October *this year*. He's 20 now.

This is why he's in the situation he's in. Not because of what he did at 14 but because at 20 he still has shown very little signs of giving a shit about what he did at 14. There's plenty of evidence the NHL has no issue giving talented players second chances but jesus, at least go through the motions to look like you've earned one.

And no, you're still a fucking asshole if you make a white developmentally disabled kid eat things out of a toilet.

And your training also affords you the knowledge that the NHL is indeed a private entity and can be as hypocritical as they please, and usually are.

Even at 20 the brain still has a ways to go. The prefrontal cortex is still very undeveloped. The fact he is still displaying the same type of behavior from 16 then isn't surprising. He's also probably not capable of seeking the help he needs.

Labeling the kid (yes he is still a kid) a fucking asshole and punishing him by taking away his career doesn't solve the issue. If anything it increases the chances of him never getting the help he needs and passing this on to the next generation. There was a brief opportunity to potentially steer him towards getting help, but that was blown by the knee jerk reactions.

And no I am in no way minimizing what happened. My story is very similar to Isaiah's and I've been heavily burdened with the struggles resulting from that most of my life. It wasn't until I realized that those kids were auto firing on their own trauma that I was able to get some relief and healing.

I’m all about forgiveness on one off issues, especially as a kid, or if someone amended their actions, but I have no sympathy, tolerance, or patience for repeated behavior for 6+ years without any attempt at redemption.

i think he's an asshole.

the good news for him is the nhl doesn't actually give a shit if anyone's an asshole. they just care if they went to bat for the asshole and he makes them look like total dummies bc he's still harassing his victim six years later.

there's a path to a career there if he takes the steps to do so.
Talent trumps all in sports

Being an asshole or even a bully never stopped anyone before but the stories coming out of this one are enough to make anyone disgusted. I have not one once of sympathy or inclination to be forgiving toward Miller.

Nobody took away his career. He did.

He can still have a career elsewhere.

for the record, i'm with you. and think the bruins speaking out demonstrates this is probably an extreme case.
