But Alfie was at least a star in junior. He was MVP of the 83 Memorial Cup. (I think the prize for winning the MVP back then was a 21" Magnavox color TV and a Brut 33 shaving kit)

Speaking of the Rangers, what's Lafreniere doing these days? I don't often hear about him so I'm guessing he's kind of an underwhelming first overall?

As GM. Traded raycroft for Rask.
Traded picks to draft Marchand.
Drafted Kessel and Lucic.
As assistant GM.. 7 years.
Kreiji, versteeg, PB, Nate Thompson.
First few years were suspect.
Gorton in NY (2016 to 2020 drafts)
2016... Nothing... Didn't have first or second rounder. Best player taking with 30 picks of that pick was..... Drumroll... Victor Mete
2017... Two first rounders
Chytil is decent at 21 but Andersen at 7 was a bust
2018. Three first rounders. Went 1 for 3 with Miller.
2019 probably too early to tell but kappo hasn't panned out and unlikely he pulls a dach. He did take the obvious number 2 (note that he didn't take wright.. See laf as well) . Rest... Who knows but not looking good.
2020 too early but laf hasn't been good enough
I'm not even sure how much of a role he plays in drafting with Montreal (or Boston or new York). The Habs seem to have good returns so far in his time. But having a good season or two in juniors doesn't always translate.

Now is Lafreniere someone that the Habs might be interested in? Could MSL do for him what he did for Caufield or are we looking at Drouin 2.0?

I would really dangle Anderson w NYR in an attempt to try and pry two of Kakko, Lafreniere and Kravtsov.
Unfortunately, I sense NYR are solely focused on Kane
