Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

he inherited the two best Leaf players since Sundin and Joseph, and hasn't won shit, it's his team, his fault.
Can't really argue here. He could have made changes to the top instead of always tweaking the bottom.

Live or die by his core four. I do think they get off the shnide this year though.

I would pick Michkov at 5 without even blinking. Wouldn't even be a difficult choice, either.

The problem becomes something we've been very familiar with over the last 20 years: We're an already small team picking a small player.

You can live with Caufield & Michkov, but then we have RHP as depth and Farrell is going to have a hard time making it. We need some size to go with the small skill.

Interesting read on Michkov

Depends on what "off the Shnide" means. Win a playoff series? Maybe, but the Bruins will murder them in the second round. Is one series victory (assuming they get one) enough to save everyone's jobs? It shouldn't be.

Nothing is good enough for you so who cares? Oh you think you know what is but the second you get it or come close you move the goal posts further down field.

Watch 'em have Gary Bettman present for the announcement, only for them to that they plan on building it in the middle of fucking nowhere.

That would be such an on-brand, Gary Bettman-approved move.

I get the appeal of Atlanta, I really do. Huge metropolitan city, gets a chance to grow roots in a very urban market (They would kill to have another PK Subban right about now), creates natural rivalries with Carolina/Florida/Tampa...

...But at the same time, the fucking league's failed twice there. Southern markets, and markets in general that don't have real winters, are always going to have a hard time caring about hockey. Kansas City, Milwaukee, Portland, those cities may be significantly smaller, but I think they would trhive. Especially Kansas City. There's no show in Kansas City during the winter beyond the Chiefs, and MLB/MLS have the city locked up in summer. It's an excellent sports town.

Forgot the driving factor behind Atlanta… Turner Sports….. NHL broadcast rights co-owners w Disney.

Portland is too small for NHL and NBA, also not sure if Modo can hold hockey. Otherwise I agree
Portland might be, yeah, especially with Seattle grabbing a hold of the market. Antifa would probably protest; Not enough BIPOC or LGTBQABC representation in hockey.

I think Milwaukee could work. I wish it was a little bit bigger, but it's in a prime area for hockey. North-Central America, neighboring Minny, Chicago, Columbus, Pittsburgh.

Another good possibility? Indianapolis.

Winning one series and then being eliminated shouldn't be enough for any Leafs fan. Not with the kind of money they're paying those supposed superstars. And it definitely shouldn't be enough to save anyone's job. Their window isn't open indefinitely, in fact, it's starting to close.

Repeat after me: Hartford. Quebec City.

Otherwise I ain't interested.

Besides which, Houston will get the next expansion team (or relocated team)
