Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Jarmo and JD should walk the plank too. Hiring Babcock in the first place seemed moronic, and clearly it was. This is not second guessing. Most said at the time that it was dumb, especially only a two year deal, that means that Jarmo and JD knew it was highly risky but for what great upside exactly? He hasn’t won a thing in years.

Kekalainen should have been fired years ago. No idea how you can run an organization into the ground, continue to make terrible decision after terrible decision, and somehow keep your job.

The Charlatan wasn't good at his job, but he looks like Sam Pollock compared to Kekalainen.

I don't think there's any doubt he's a super sharp hockey mind. The same goes for The Charlatan.

They're hockey lifers that have forgotten more about hockey than I'll ever know.

Doesn't mean they're competent managers. Far from it.

I think there’s plenty of doubt that he’s a super sharp hockey mind. Hiring a new coach to a two year deal only . . . and having that coach be Babcock suggests he’s a moron, not a super sharp mind.

But I thought having a President of Hockey Ops is the panacea..

There’s no such thing as a genius GM, all 32-present GMs are within a very slim bandwidth - i would say the so called brilliant ones like Stevie Y were simply geniuses because of inheriting 2-elite talents + their market being in a geographically advantageous locale

Jaarmo like Chevaldayof has done as well as can be expected of a GM in a sh*t hole locale

Yet he gets rewarded with Fantilli. Life is unfair.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to get at.
Jaarmo’s done as good a job as anyone can be expected to do in Columbus - the market like Winter-peg has severe restrictions

Jeff Gorton was able to get any UFA and any player would waive for a deal to NYR… such is not the case for markets like CBJ… or Mtl

He somehow convinced Johnny Hockey to sign there, however.

Then explain Montreal and the success The Charlatan has had compared to Columbus. Explain why San Jose & Anaheim are in the dumps when they have the "geographically advantageous locale". Explain why NYR/Toronto haven't been a powerhouse despite having advantages? Remind me again, but did Kreider sign in New York as a free agent? Or Henrik Lundqvist? Or Rick Nash? Or Mika Zibenejad?

These are all basic, overly simplistic excuses. Well, it's Columbus, nobody wants to play there! You mean like Johnny Gaudreau, one of the biggest UFAs since Tavares?

Kekalainen sucks because his drafting has been shoddy, he's made bad trades, he's made terrible signatures, the full package of incompetence.

Given what you just wrote I’m not sure how you can believe that he’s a sharp hockey mind. He seems like a moron, actually.

He seems like someone who's out of his element and shouldn't be building hockey teams and being responsible for a budget.

People like Kekalainen and Bergevin are rink rats. They watch hockey and evaluate players, that's where they got their shine after they retired.

The problem for them, though...
