Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Then explain Montreal and the success The Charlatan has had compared to Columbus. Explain why San Jose & Anaheim are in the dumps when they have the "geographically advantageous locale". Explain why NYR/Toronto haven't been a powerhouse despite having advantages? Remind me again, but did Kreider sign in New York as a free agent? Or Henrik Lundqvist? Or Rick Nash? Or Mika Zibenejad?

These are all basic, overly simplistic excuses. Well, it's Columbus, nobody wants to play there! You mean like Johnny Gaudreau, one of the biggest UFAs since Tavares?

Kekalainen sucks because his drafting has been shoddy, he's made bad trades, he's made terrible signatures, the full package of incompetence.
Mtl / Cdn markets have a huge advantage in potentially luring American resident UFAs which has been Habs primary success, ability to structure heavy bonus contracts thus reducing IRS / state tax burden - Gionta, Cole, Petry, even CDN players like Cammalieri & Toffoli who’s primary residences are in the US

SJS was competitive under Wilson for what 12-years? Anaheim as well under Brian Murray & Burke - Bob Murray was a cluster who led to their present demise

how would NYR “rebuild” look without Trouba, Panarin & Fox limiting their destinations to one sole locale?

Jim Nill was bumbling and failing for his first 9-years w Stars then was able to lure some UFAs and a great 2017 draft et… voilà, he’s now a genius, all is forgotten

the margin of difference between Nill, Stevie Y and Jaarmo is minute, which is my point.

So Babcock essentially got canned because the millennial woke f*ckers “didn’t like him”…. goes a long ways towards course correcting the impression Gen Z is soff and weak minded

Western civilization is going to get steamrolled by Asian superpowers…
He got canned because he's a fucking weirdo control freak and a walking, talking nightmare for the Blue Jackets' HR department as well as the league's PR department. Oh, and then there's the minor detail that he hasn't won a goddamn thing in 15 years.

Their successes have been in overpaying players who had few, if any, better options.
Cammalieri, Erik Cole, Petry (twice), Toffoli all could’ve chosen other venues - Gionta I agree with

Bonus’ is not viewed as salary by the IRS and is taxed at a much lower even negligible rate in no/low state tax locales. US teams don’t have that luxury which is offered up due to Canada / US tax treaty

I’m no lawyer so I’ll let the highly trained counsellors on this board correct me, but I would assume there would be a good lawsuit outcome to be had if those are the baseless grounds Babcock was canned for

Jaarmo’s done as good a job as anyone can be expected to do in Columbus - the market like Winter-peg has severe restrictions

Jeff Gorton was able to get any UFA and any player would waive for a deal to NYR… such is not the case for markets like CBJ… or Mtl
There are no excuses

That only works if your paying out the 90%+ in upfront bonus money every July like the Leafs do

Other than Price , they havent dished out huge bonus money

Petry had a modest 3 mil signing bonus

Babcock is a piece of shit. Hats off to the kids for not putting up with oppressive shit like our generation did. No more please coach can I have some more mistreatment.

As a coach, I don't think you need any reason to get fired.

IMO these Gen Z types need to be allowed to bring an emotional support animal on the ice with them from now on, whatever they want a monkey, a giraffe, a peacock ……. you know just in case they’re asked to do a drill they may not like causing emotional torment & lifetime of trauma

good point, we have them in our office (especially as articled students). in my day, if someone asked you to do work even at 630, you said yes sir/maam, and did it. Now, we are basically told by the exec that we should not give them work after 4pm as the students will not like the pressure of work being given to them so late in the day.
