Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

This is not your father’s expansion teams — today’s expansion teams are pretty good loaded with cap space and high draft picks

The owner in Houston wants nothing to do w an expansion team, has told Bettman wants NHL team to quickly compete w Stars, otherwise he doesn’t want to team, whereas Salt Lake (Jazz owner) has told NHL he’s good w expansion team

Yotes will move to Houston IMO
Was he not paying attention to Vegas 6 years ago?

Houston is one of the richest cities in North America without an NHL team. I don't think there's any chance they're going to lose out on that expansion money just because Fertitta wants a competitive team right away.

If Arizona does relocate, at long fucking last, Salt Lake City seems like the most logical place according to the viable candidates.

I'm on an island here, but Kansas City is a great spot to go to as well. The mid-west Pittsburgh.

That’s the point, it’s being reported he doesn’t really want anything to do with hockey but will begrudgingly take a relocation team

Houston would be better served with an expansion rather than the Yotes if they want to compete.

Pittsburgh loses their first game of the year because...

checks notes...

They had bad goaltending and shody defense.

So... Same thing as last year.
They need to be able to score more than 2 against a team like Chicago if they want a chance.

There's that too. They're the oldest team in the league by a considerable margin (average 32 years old).

There's a bigger gap between them & the second oldest team (Washington) than there is between Washington & the 13th oldest team.

Malkin's slowed down, Sid is still great but he's not as good as he used to be, Letang's always a concussion away from retirement, they don't have much in terms of prospects. There's going to be some tough times in Pittsburgh in the next few years.

That makes me sooo sad.

I think between Arizona, San Jose, Anaheim, Chicago & Montreal, Bettman would be more than thrilled with Chicago could get their next Toews-Kane duo.

Chicago's a great hockey market and the NHL is better for it when it's thriving. I just despise all the shit they pulled there.

Bedard is a generational player. You can tell the way he skates/controls the puck/his vision/shot. If Chicago can surround him with a couple of other star players, they will be great for a long time. I know fans who are watching CHI games just to watch Bedard, I know I do.

The generational stuff stopped at McDavid for now

I don't think Bedard will ever become a Crosby/McDavid level of player, but I still maintain that a Patrick Kane comparison is very fair.

A yearly candidate for the Art Ross and just a god damn blast to watch. Assuming his injuries aren't going to slow him down too bad, Patrick Kane has a good shot to finish with 1,500 points when his career's over. If Bedard comes close to that, that's one hell of a player.
