Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Tkachuk can sucker punch, players can slew foot and head shot practically with immunity but this, this is what gets 41 games

From a league that has firmly embraced gambling as part of its business model. The emergence of “NHL Edge” doesn’t feel like a coincidence.

Wait, he didn't even bet on NHL games and he was suspended for 41 games???
Who says he never bet on NHL games? Also, what do you think happens if his gambling hobby becomes a gambling addiction and he winds up needing to find some quick cash to pay off debts? He either agrees to try and throw games and/or he starts betting heavily on NHL games, including games in which he is playing. It's the inevitable slippery slope which is why sports leagues should not have anything to do with the gambling industry.

The NHL did in their statement.

That could bring cops into this. This stuff starts leaking into organized crime.

Trying to present gambling with integrity. Who cares if the athletes club each other to CTE or death.

Which again is why pro sports leagues, in order to preserve the integrity of their sports (the thing that keeps people watching because it supposedly isn't staged) should have nothing to do with the gambling industry.

The NHL never sees past their own nose. They only care about the short-term money. Gambling represents revenues. CTE is only a problem if players start suing and even then only if they win their lawsuits, which is a long shot. As long as the league has a clause in player contracts covering "informed consent" they can sit back and watch players kill each other. It doesn't affect their bottom line.

But a gambling scandal which could cause the flow of cash from gaming companies that sponsor league broadcasts? That gets their full attention. In the NHL you can do whatever you want. Just don't fuck with the money or the things that generate the money.

Assuming that the NHL is lying to us is not a conspiracy, it's just common sense. Have they released the names of the NHL players involved in the 2008 Team Canada rape case yet? Will they ever? Bettman is a lying sack of shit, full stop. He may as well run for the GOP in 2024.
because if they incorrectly release the names of players not even charged and cost said player a career on allegations, they would be sued for millions. Even Krustchev could win that case.
