Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Money will definitely give a player a massive edge. I don't think there's any doubt about that.

But to be a professional athlete, there needs to be a much higher than average skill level, a certain amount of intelligence to understand a certain amount of nuance and most importantly, an insane work ethic.

Besides Phil Kessel and MLB pitchers, it's almost impossible to make it to the highest level of sports without being a gym rat.

I did’t expect Zona to win against NYR. Though it must be said the Coyotes are scoring goals on buckets.

And NYR doesn’t convince me. Their D is way too loose for the playoffs.

Just checking out the Kraken-Sharks game on Centre Ice. The SAP Arena is 2/3 empty. If a Canadian team drew crowds that sparse all we'd be hearing about 24-7 would be relocation.

If you watch the opening faceoff and three fights start, I love how you see Chris Tierny as the only guy who doesn't have a partner and you can see him mouth off, fuck me... And it leaves me to wonder. Is he saying that because he's re-examining his life choices and how he got there, or is he saying that because the only dude who isn't fighting anyone is Jacob Trouba and he's inevitably going to be stuck fighting him?

Well, regardless, 8 of those dudes got a game check to fight.

Hot take: I'm of the opinion that if you have a fighting major, you should get kicked out of the game.

I think it's the later as he knew what was going to happen and he's looking for a partner at first and didn't find one.

Everyone but the first fighters got a fighting major.

What I find weird is I don't know how they chose who got a game misconduct & who didn't.

Rempe got kicked out, but not McDermot? Tierny got kicked out, but not Trouba?

What?

Then again, this is the NHL we're talking about...

NHL Rule 46.7 states: “A game misconduct penalty shall be imposed on any player who is assessed a major penalty for fighting after the original altercation has started.”
