Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

He has done more in barely 5 years than other regimes and had to take over a tear down from Holland
????????

Mike Grier was hired by San Jose two years ago to the day and he's done five times as much as Yzerman did, while inheriting a much worse situation.

What are you even talking about?

So If the Habs called and offered something like
lavoie and Ceci for savard (50% retained) to the oilers think they’d budge? Get savard save some cap space for Holloway. With Savoie in the system now they MAY move Lavoie

Edmonton would do that trade in a heartbeat. I have no idea why we would, though. Savard's the best of those three, and Ceci & Raphael Lavoie are two players I don't ever want to see in a Habs jersey.

Also, there's an 100% chance Lavoie will be available on waivers for free at the end of September.

Getting Lavoie is akin to getting Andersson last off-season. I wouldnt mind him as a throw-in in a trade but I wouldnt actively pursue him.

That's the part that's most confusing, how would Florida's pick be transferred? Flames would be total idiots to do that.

I think the best scenario is Calgary winning the lottery.
If that happens we get the panthers pick?

I think we need the panthers to also finish bottom 10
The Flames have Florida’s 2025 first-round pick (from the Matthew Tkachuk trade) - Fla’s 2024 first-rounder was not top 10 (and goes to Philadelphia in the Claude Giroux trade) ✅
  • With Flames having Florida’s 2025 pick IF Cgy’s own pick IS top 10, then Montreal gets Florida’s pick. If Cgy’s pick ISN’T top 10, then Montreal gets whichever of the two picks is earlier.
If Calgary’s 2025 first-rounder IS first overall, then their 2026 first-rounder goes to Montreal

Not the best case but the best realistic case

If I’ve translated this hieroglyphics properly, ideal scenario is Fla ending up missing playoffs, standing with 14OA pick and winning lottery…

We’ll likely get Florida’s pick which would probably be from 25 to 32.
I wouldn’t discount back-to-back Cup appearance hangover - they’ve played a lot of games and Bob isn’t any younger approaching 37. Missing the playoffs, though not looking likely at this very moment, is quite possible

Falling short of pick 32 could be… 25? 27?

The point is, I think, is that it is very unlikely we’re getting top half pick.

Nah, we'll be getting a pick in the 20s unfortunately. Around the same spot Winnipeg's pick ended up.

But still, a late first to take Monahan off their hands and to eventually flip him for another first round pick? A pretty good outcome, regardless.

Or trade the pick to Winnipeg (plus a player) for a prospect at Michigan?

I would rather trade the Calgary/Florida pick now and then move Matheson next off season.

Personally, I'd give up a considerable amount to get McGroarty.

I'd give up any prospect we have not named Demidov/Reinbacher along with that Florida/Calgary first round pick.

A potential top-6 of (interchange the players as you wish):

Caufield-Suzuki-Slaf
McGroarty-Dach-Demidov

is a legitimate top-6 for a playoff team and most importantly, those players are all in similar age brackets. Maybe not as much top end talent as I'd want, but still. That would be as good of a top-6 forward group as this franchise has iced since I can remember watching games.
