I've been to Westmount and Henderson. I know where I'd rather live and it's not Henderson.

govt should not take more than half
During the period in the late 50's to the mid 60's, the US enjoyed it's longest period of prosperity. Nearly half of the workforce was unionized, companies gave their employees generous wages and pensions, and most families lived quite comfortably on one income. But that was a time when the highest corporate tax rate was about 91%. If you want to know why we can't have nice things anymore, look no further than tax cuts for already rich people. Life was better for everyone when we taxed the shit out of rich people and corporations. It started going to shit the minute we let them off the hook and started believing in fantasies like "trickle down economics". No one with money is motivated by altruism. They have to be compelled to do the right thing. Punitive taxation keeps these fuckers from getting rich to the point where they no longer need to adhere to any rules.

That was also a function of Western Europe & Japan rebuilding from WWII rubble and US industry was the only player around - so many US companies produced the same products. Once Western European countries & Japan rebuilt themselves and started to become a competitive threat ….US companies folded. & jobs disappeared.

The once all American pie has become a global pie w US portion having reduced significantly in size

Globalization in manufacturing killed jobs

The elite use cheap labour and 3rd world factories to enhance wealth

North America is the service continent for the working class to buy the goods made overseas

When corporations were heavily taxed, they lessened their tax burden by spending their profits on things like higher wages for their employees, pension funds, research and development, and other things which helped grow the economy and spread prosperity around. Once they no longer needed to worry about being taxed, they took their profits and instead plowed them into stock buybacks and private jets while gutting their workforces and paying those who remained as little as possible. Pension funds were gutted. Corporations no longer make money by making better products better than their competitors. Now they make their profits by moving money around from one hedge fund to another. They produce nothing of value and their only concern is share value. This excess, largely untaxed profit was what was supposed to "trickle down" to us peasants. We're still waiting to feel a single drop of it.

we are also in a war period, very few hit that mythical 91%, AND you actually saw results, the interstate highways, going to the moon, a cold war, nuclear arms race, NONE of which apply now.

Now our tax dollars go into a sinkhole and we get no results

It is funny that leftists like you yap that the right wants to return to a long gone time like the 1950s when at the same time, you want to return to that time with a stay at home mom, one income etc.

we are at fault for that too, we all want the nice shirts that cost us only 200 instead of 400 because it is made in a sweat shop, same with Nike/Adidas etc.

I want to go back to the 50's when CEO's were only hundreds of times richer than their employees instead of tens of thousands of times richer. Only conservatives want to go back for the racism and misogyny.

Yet, life expectancy has never been at this level: people are healthier & wealthier than ever…

They are neither. Just because we have drugs and medical procedures that will keep a person alive where in the past they would have died doesn't mean that person is healthy. We have created a pharmaceutical industry that is very good at keeping sick people alive so that they can keep taking pills. But they arent healthy. Just look at the increasing rates of obesity, diabetes and heart disease compared with 50-70 years ago. Sure, we "live" longer, but we are by no means healthier.

And most of the so-called "wealth" one sees in terms of how much stuff people have is also not a good indicator of anything.

Today people have access to credit that they didn't have in the 50's when you normally had to save up to buy things. So sure, people have nice cars, boats, go to Disneyland and have the latest iPhone, but none of it is paid for. It's all done on credit and people are drowning in consumer debt. They look prosperous but the reality is that they're living paycheck to paycheck just to pay their credit card bills. Back in the day when someone had a shiny new car in the driveway it's because it was 100% bought and paid for. Nowadays people are tooling around in expensive cars and paying $600/month for a depreciating asset.

Agreed but if stuff was made here only the 1% can afford it , and economy would tank
To an extent, perhaps, but the reality is that if those Air Jordan's were made by unionized labor here instead of by Indonesian slave labor Nike would have to sell them for a less exorbitant price and take a little less profit. But they'd still be rich and the rest of us, working thise well paying union jobs, would be better off too and less reliant on 2nd and 3rd jobs plus credit at 19% interest just to make ends meet.
