Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Jets apparently offered the ‘Canes McGroarty, Perfetti and a draft pick for him.
If that’s factual Tulsky’s gonna fail as GM

McGroarty is specifically the type of player Canes need and don’t have. I also don’t see Necas having success in Rod the Bod’s system - just not a good match

I highly doubt Winnipeg made that offer. It was reported that Necas refused to discuss anything beyond a 2 year deal with anyone, wanting to get to UFA status ASAP. Winnipeg wouldn't give up all of that for just 2 seasons of Necas.

I’m sure Guerin knew who he was when he made the offer. He was the main piece in the Kevin Fiala trade with LA. Played at the U. Of Minnesota so Wild had a good read on him.
I don't think it's a surprise that an organization that has The Charlatan in a real position of power traded a defensive prospect away for an undersized winger that was already in the NHL... and that the defensive prospect got an 8 year deal north of $8M shortly after.

It's almost like history's repeating itself.

Serevalli.
Just listened to DFO - Sabres apparently also had a deal agreed to in place but Necas wouldn’t sign w Buf

Therefore, I’m assuming Necas wasn’t willing to sign an extension w Jets either

That’s 3-teams mow rumored to have had deals in place w Canes whom Necas refused to sign extensions with - Jets, Buf and CBJ for 4OA pick

Exactly. He wouldn’t sign there.

Ok, let me rework my comment then. If Winnipeg really offered the Canes that package, it was contingent on Necas signing a long term contract with the Jets. Given that Necas was refusing to sign any contract longer than 2 years, none of what any team offered of substantial value was really available to Tulsky to turn down.

Necas is a knob , secure your bag now

Other examples of betting on yourself that got burnt

Why risk an injury or poor play and lose millions

Foolish move IMO
Again, you & others keep bringing this up, but this almost never happens in hockey. This isn't football.

I can name you on one hand players who lost out on their big pay day because of injuries.

Patrice Bergeron & Kris Letang, despite their extensive concussion histories, among other things, kept getting contract after contract.

What the heck is he fighting for an extra mil if the moon lines up

This isnt Matthews who bagged his money and made 25 mil in endorsements

He is a decent second liner no more , turning down probably 7x7 right now thats stupid dumb

Klingberg, Hall, Mark Tinordi , and I am sure plenty others turned down term and got burnt

Bergeron and others got thier 8 year deal
