Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

I say lack of insight, the NHL now is far far superior to KHL. Even if you are just a decent player but not great you will test the NHL at some point.

Why why why did we we draft Jim Nesich over Brett Hull in the sixth round in 1984?

Like... It's the sixth fucking round.

The Wild believed so little in Kaprizov that they took 3 other players ahead of him.

If you can develop a 5th rounder into a top 6 player , thats a huge bonus

I think in the 5th round, you have to go with the most talented player available and hope it was a major miss by other clubs.

Can Hab fans complain about rounds 1 and 2
Sure can, and do, with good reason. We can complain about later rounds as well collectively, just not about missing specific players.

I mean it's great that we picked Gallagher in round five but we also picked 3 guys before him, Tinordi, Macmillan and Ellis, so our evaluation wasn't that great either.

Iirc Kaprizov let it be known prior to the draft he had no intention of leaving Russia. As a side note the only reason Kucherov dropped to 2nd round and Kuznetsov late in 1st round was back in 2010-2011 there was lots of concern in NHL about Russian players preferring to stay in their homeland w KHL.

Kuznetsov, yes. Kucherov, no.

Kucherov was him playing in a lower league and having a style that, at the time, might not have translated all that well to the NHL.

When drafting players, luck already plays such a high %, even in the first/second round. Because we're still missing a lot of information on the players.

If everyone would have known that Brayden Point would have dramatically fixed his skating, would he have lasted until the third round? Same thing with Gallagher, his skating's improved leaps & bounds from the time he was in Junior.

By the time you get to the third round, all of the players have flaws. No offensive talent, not much hockey sense, not that big, deficient skating, plays in a league with terrible caliber, etc. It's all about identifying players with certain traits and just hoping that they'll figure it out.

San Jose's GM, Doug Wilson, said that the team was going through a "reset".

The next day, Erik Karlsson said he didn't sign there to go through a "reset". Had enough of that in Ottawa.

This should be fun. He might have the absolute worst contract in the whole league. He's unmovable. Sorry Erik, but you're stuck there.

Most prospects are 3-4 years away from ever hitting the NHL

Luck plays a role but player development is more crucial , identifying future skill sets and roles .

Wilson was a top GM whose team drafted and developed well for years . Team had a hell of a run for 10-12 years without high picks .

How the hell did Wilson not expect a reset was on the horizon , totally foolish thinking.

A ton of aging vets with several shit contracts , he should never of pursued EK in the first place .

And EK you took the money and ran , like you had no clue the team was in decline .....ya right .

The Leafs slump is fun to watch. All the arrogant fucking fans earlier in the year getting a taste. Loved the Lehtonen hype until he was traded too. Classic.

Every team slumps.
