Not a good look, yet many wanted that “fire” behind the Habs bench.

St.Patrick da coach, is a creation of Les Remparts having resource access no other team in the Q had…

The usual suspects in the francophone media wanted Roy, both for the GM job and the coaching job, and not for reasons that had anything to do with managerial or coaching acumen. They wanted a ti-gars who they know reads what they write and listens to what they say. They wanted a guy who's buttons are easy to push, a guy who would leak juicy stories like a seive.

Agreed…still Isles are dead last in the league in PK and PP… that’s on the coaching staff.

They have good G and solid defensively aware group of players the PK should not be 32nd
The Isles needed to reboot years ago and should start soon with Palmeri , Nelson and Lee

Take calls on Barzal as well

Apparently, Islanders are in the Pettersson sweepstakes. Rumors are Dobson & Danny Nelson.

NYI don't have the cap space for EP this season, but they do next season.

I wanted Patrick hired as even if he untimately failed, there would be an entertainment factor. The Bergevins, Therriens, Martins etc. produced a rather dull decade and left the cupboard bare anyway.

It may or may not have produced lasting results.

Coaches don't provide entertainment value unless they're unhinged like Tortorella and unhinged coaches, while entertaining, generally run teams that are dumpster fires.

Patrick Roy the player, had a meltdown in Montreal. Patrick Roy the husband and father, had at least one meltdown that required a call to the Denver PD and destroyed his marriage. Patrick Roy, coaching the Habs? These Habs?

Non merci.

the Denver issue was overblown, judge held it did not.meet standard of domestic violence. and iirc, his marriage ended 6 yrs later so there is no direct link.

Torts isn’t “unhinged” as you put it. He’s just super-demanding of his players.

I mean I would have been fine with hiring him back then (pre Bergevin). Now, not so much. But if Marty were to leave...maybe. Not sure how its going for him regarding player relations etc. in New York. Things seem quiet, but it usually is with the Islanders.

He is not the right coach for a team like the Habs and neither is Roy.

And any coach who goes down the tunnel to the other team's dressing room between periods, as Torts did during his regrettable tenure in Vancouver, is, by definition, unhinged. And when Roy was in Colorado he pulled the same shit. These guys are distractions at best and toxic to team culture at worst.

Torts did that a decade ago. He’s not unhinged now.
