Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Being an asshole or even a bully never stopped anyone before but the stories coming out of this one are enough to make anyone disgusted. I have not one once of sympathy or inclination to be forgiving toward Miller.
it's not about forgiveness, it's about healing and moving forward. Neither party is going to move on from this and the cycle will continue.

I still can't believe Columbus gave Laine $8.7M x 4 years & Erik Gudbransson $4M x 4 years.

"How's Columbus at the bottom the standings?"

Dunno, couldn't tell ya.

Just like they gave Gaudreau and Werenski big coin , nobody wants to go to Colombo

Actually it's not spot on at all. It's not a situation where he's simply born a racist asshole, no one is. This kids development was clearly broken and at 20, there's still time to correct. Trauma causes a stress response when triggered under similar circumstances. This results in an auto firing response to these stressful situations by your brain. It becomes very difficult to control your behavior unless you are taught to catch these triggers early in the stress response. It can be taught, but it's a long process with very little gains at the start.

By villainizing him on a global scale, it's unlikely he will ever have another opportunity to start this process.

The way of thinking that people are simply good or evil is extremely outdated, we have the science and know better.

We're not villainizing mate. Him trying to sneak into the league after clearly being blocked caused his own villainization.

You clearly understand this better than most and technically I never argued with the professional staff however you need to take this into consideration:

We don't let blind people fly planes
We don't let cognitively impaired people drive cars (unless they prove competence)
We shouldn't let people with mental health issues run countries, unfortunately we do.

Just as its not the persons fault that they have ASD it may not be Miller's "fault" he turned out that way but in the real world? Not a businesses problem and the NHL is a business.

Regardless of underlying causes, he has not matured and the risk/reward for allowing him into the NHL land heavily on the risk side.

I'm not arguing whether he should be currently in the league, not in his present state of mind, but rather the handling of the situation. Yes the NHL is a business, but one with a massive platform and some recent history of using this platform outside of hockey business (treaty announcements). There was a yuge opportunity to actually create awareness around mental illness and provide people with a more realistic scope of the situation.

How the mind works should 100% be common knowledge. If the small sample size here is an indication we're a long ways away from that.

And no, I am not a professional in this field so argue away. Continuous learning should be a life commitment.

Agreed there.

I've difficulty simply blaming the parents too. I've seen quality couples have insulent and irredeamable kids. I mean I'm pretty sure Dalmers mother didn't want him that way.

No Werenski either
Werenski only got injured a few days ago, though. He was available during the rest of the games.

Columbus is just... I like Jarmo, but he's made some fucking head scratching moves in the last few years.

no other business is able to block a person from an entire industry. Krust will know far better than me but is that not getting into anti-trust territory? Goodell in the NFL is a dictator and even he doesn't prevent people from playing for issues arising before the draft. Silver in the NBA is the same.

Maybe it's buried in CBA but I don't recall Bettman having the power to bar a player for what he did in elementary and middle school.

A team would definitely be entitled to say not worth the hassle but can the entire industry, not sure can legally.

It was reported that Logan M also needs to chat with Gary B before he dresses for the Habs...so it might be buried in the CBA

The NHL is NOT the entire hockey industry. Sorry mate.

The NHL isn't the entire industry, but where I would push back is, the fact that he's ineligible to play in the NHL makes him ineligible to play in the AHL as well.

Does that mean, by default, he's ineligible to play in the ECHL? They're associated with the NHL & AHL too.

Regardless, Mitchell Miller's going to have to go to Russia or some other Eastern European country that doesn't really care about what he did if he wants to be a professional hockey player.

Actiins have consequences. A kid kills someone there are consequences. It trickles down from there.

Regardless of development he did the indiscretion repeatedly and for a very long time. Allowing that to be condoned will likely cause some other poorly developed kid to do the same thinking there aren't really any consequences.
