Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Petry decided to forego UFA twice
and, that does not take away from the fact that yank UFAs who are not already with the team tend not to sign with Canadian based teams despite the advantage you claim we have

Your argument reminds of me of William P Carlssen's argument on the old gazette board where he stated despite the low dollar, the Canadian based teams had an advantage of paying clerical staff in Canadian dollars.

It's been trending though, we'll see if it continues. There has been 1-2 every past years. I'm not exactly hearing the same for US teams, besides Columbus, for different reasons.
I understand but this isnt the NFL where half a roster departs for greener pastures in true free agency and a system to manipulate the cap in many ways .

There might be more manipulation in the NHL with LTIR alone. If you go on IR in the NFL your cap hit doesn't go away.

True but with different tags and not fully guaranteed deals you can manage your roster

Raiders created 23 mil in cap space with one keystoke on Carr`s contract to a different type of bonus

Would be nice if the Habs can do that with Gally and Anderson

ah you poor baby.. my point is still true, it was both that shut down the border..
I never stated it wasn't. Our border rules were far more stringent (even Trudeau fan boys have to admit it) and it was way easier to go to the US than to come here. We had concentration camp hotels ffs.

Laugh all you want Goalie but we learned in 2020-2022 that our Charter is not worth the paper it is written on (unless you are a criminal), the govt can tell us fuck you, no rights for you, anytime it wants. If it did it for something that had a 99.5+% survival rate (and sadly had people wanting more), just think what they will do to us for something important. It was bad enough that the govt did it to us, worse was that we did nothing to stop it (I am mad at myself for complying just because it was easier than actually standing up). Hell anyone who disagreed was castigated and called names by the government and others who simply stated "obey". (see @WeHaveMoreCupsThanYou calling lovely Angela and Julie Karens just because they did not like the "rules".

Canadian teams would have a way better chances under NFL rules.

I'm still not sure what can be the plan if 1) Free agents won't sign with you 2) Any players worth anything have your team on their NTC 3) Players drafted and developed by your team wants to bounce as soon as they turn 25.

I'm not saying that's what's happening, well not all at once, but there is a trend slowly growing. It's not all just poor management.

Wrong

And why anyone would risk infecting our elders and put them through agonizing suffering is just extreme selfishness. These people are not even human in my book.

The counterargument was always to protect the vulnerable, not force everyone that wasn't vulnerable in a lockdown and threaten them with loosing their livelihood.

Why the fuck were we forcing vaccines and locking out people 0-49 that have 99.99% survival rate? It's insanity.

Every team would benefit when the league generates a shit ton of money and no team has any real advantage

The NHL has created a system that has no flexibility

They deserved everything they got. They and all the anti-vax, freedumbers tried to foment unrest. If they had obeyed the mandates would have been lifted sooner. And precisely NO ONE cares that people who never had to endure income insecurity were inconvenienced when they wanted to travel abroad for vacations during a bloody pandemic.

Because the health care system initially couldn't cope with the breakout, it was a disaster. Funny how people convienently forget this fact.

Not forgetting anything. The lockdown made sense initially as we were trying to figure out what was going on, and to slow down the spread so that hospitals can adjust, but it quickly stopped making sense after a few months. Multiple things can be true at the same time.

easier said in hindsight than in real time during a crisis
