That's what investigative reporters do. They use their contacts. Like Westhead, Strang's stock in trade is reporting on sexual abuse and gender violence in sports for the Athletic.
Your preference would be for reporters to simply not bother digging at all so that you won't be inconvenienced by uncomfortable truths regarding systemic problems in the corporate sports entities you cheer on. Either that or, even better, aid and abet these entities in covering up their crimes because you'd prefer to pretend that everything is juuuust fine.
Well, everything is not fine and the guilty party or parties need to be punished. That only happens if people like Westhead and Strang do their jobs because it's not like these corporate assholes or shitbag jocks like Panarin are going to come clean on their own.

He's broken more than his fair share of stories, and your criticism of him has nothing to do with the quality of his work but rather the fact that he does it at all. You think he's somehow being disloyal because exposing a scandal within Hockey Canada might cause them to drop out of the World Juniors, leaving you without your Boxing Day fix. Once again, the only thing that concerns you is your personal inconvenience, not about a young woman who was gang raped and traumatized for life. It's just "Rick Westhead and his reporting are ruining my xmas holiday. How dare he?"

Well as I recall your big criticism of Westhead came when he exposed HC and both government and sponsors started pulling away from them. You blamed the messenger rather than the actual criminals (the players who took part in the assault and the HC coaches and administrators who did nothing to stop it and tried to cover it up) Your preference seemed to be to let them all get away with it if the alternative was having HC shut down like it should have been.
His ilk and those who never had hockey ability like to make out that all players are raving sex maniacs who need castration.
I would love him and his cult followers to produce articles about the 99.9% of players who do good deeds, not just the bad apples. You crave negativity. I do not.
