Around The League - Offseason 2023

Looks like Danault was right about what kind of player he is, and MB was wrong.

Danault was also right about what kind of player KK would be…. I imagine he thought “I could live being 1B with Suzuki as IA but I sure as hell ain’t gonna be the 3rd line guy behind KK”

yep, exactly, he was fine as 2, but not as 3 behind 82,

The beauty of this Leafs media blitz, even by Mtl media…. has given HuGo stealth cover / distraction at opportunistic time

Habs are irrelevant for the moment, but when they weren’t, these type of upper management shuffles were quite juicy in the media (Grundman out of nowhere, Serge fired, Gainey coming and going)

keeps it in the news,

but I disagree, we are never irrelevant,,, our amount of relevancy might change over time but it is never irrelevant

It’s now all about drafting, getting young guys and putting olds on LTIR…. very necessary steps but boring to anyone but the hardcore fan.

Is the Leafs soap opera wasn’t front row center, it would be all PLD all time right about now, but thankfully the Leafs ownership & management have been kind enough to provide HuGo cover

Danault's still a #3 center, btw. Probably the best #3 in the league, but he's not a #2 center on any team with credible center depth.

He’d be perfect on the Leafs centring Nylander and Tavares (can’t play pivot anymore)

As we’ve always stated here, if Matthews wants to maximize $, Cdn team is his best option due to bonuses not being viewed as revenue by IRS, if he goes to US it’s for non $ reasons

There is the bitterness factor for Matthews if his BFF Marner’s dealt …
34 controls it all and money is just one factor

So those 10 mil bonus cheques the Leafs are handing out in 5 weeks is not revenue ? No tax implication ?

I would honestly just ask Toronto what they want and give it to them. (On the condition that Matthews signs an extension, otherwise I'm not in the least bit interested)

You get your #1, elite, big, franchise center in his prime? Fuck everything else, half the rebuild is done overnight.

PS: I still owe you a drink (rosé?)
Fuck 34 in a trade

I meant with a little more money to compensate.

Point is they would have stayed. Markov too age that's the one move I'll never let go of, hate for MB on that move. The man deserved it, give it to him. He played another 4 years in KHL so he was good for two more.
He wanted more years than anyone would give him , nobody was giving him term .
