Doug Warf named Team President

polarbare

Well-known member

Prior to his time with MDO Holdings, Warf spent 16 years working for the Hurricanes in various sales and marketing roles. He originally joined the organization as a sales intern during the 2000-01 NHL season, before working his way up to Vice President of Marketing, a position he held from 2010-17. As Vice President of Marketing, Warf led the Hurricanes’ design, video production, promotions, fan development and community relations efforts. He served as the club’s lead representative for the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh and helped lead two major uniform redesigns.

He was great leading the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation, not so great when he was VP of Marketing. So as long as he stays out of Mike Forman’s successor’s way, he’ll be fine.

Dude has been through the entire wringer here, to be sure. He was a Rutherford bagman back in the early days and I'm sure there's a few in the old media contingent who aren't fans. But one thing about Warf, he's a company man down to his socks. For an administrative apperatchik, that's what you want.

Great opportunity for a really nice guy. Back when I was working in RTP, I had the chance to meet with Doug on several occasions and he was a class act.

Yeah, I met him a few times too. He and Jon Chase were fixtures at Jr. Hurricanes tryouts in the mid-aughts with the previous season’s leftover swag. Always with a smile on his face, willing to engage anyone about anything, even if there was nothing he could do about it.

I had some dealings with Doug as well. Solid guy, definitely a Hurricanes man all the way. Happy for his promotion and I know he can handle it.

Jim

Doug Warf just got pushed down the org chart. The Canes hired Brian Fork as CEO of Hurricanes Holdings LLC. He’s a Raleigh native and Hurricanes fan. He went to Davidson College and played on the football team and UNC Law School. Prior to joining the organization, he was Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger’s chief of staff for 4 years after spending 2 years as Senate General Counsel.

Why not hire Berger too??? If you have the Fork to Warf down the meal...let the meal be a Berger sans bun...

Ugh. Fork has been brutally efficient as Berger's shakedown man and is apparently ready to activate the golden parachute, underling edition. You guys who don't trust anything the team tells you will love this one.

One of the people in my tailgate chat said he’s a NC State STH. I think relations between the co-tenants is pretty good, certainly better than the Rutherford/Yow years. So it’s his job to make sure that everyone is on board with the changes that will happen the next few years.

He's a politician, or more accurately a politician's surrogate. He's a chameleon. I'm sure he'll be fine serving as Dundon's grease man instead of Berger's

Oh, also ... relations between State and the Canes on the leadership level have never been better, but on the grassroots level things are quite unsettled. This new development stuff has State football people on edge, bigtime. And the continued lack of even a conceptual site plan isn't helping. It leaves the rubes free to use their limited (and quite paranoid) imaginations. Somebody needs to show the tailgating addicts some freaking pictures, and soon.
