you've probably big up'd the oilers in your mind. they haven't been great this year.
but they're still good and we played a nice even game against them without Matthews, so yeah, solid win.

I won't lie - I was expecting, and wanted, the pass to Tavares for a tap in, but that was damn nice too.

Not a commentary about the competition. It was well played, fast paced, exciting, good passing, smart plays, all game long.
Pleasure to watch, and these always make me wonder what the hell is stopping them from playing hungry like that every game.

Also, should've won in regulation. McDavid knocking Tavares' dropped stick away right before the tying goal should've resulted in an instant penalty with their possession, dead play, and Leafs PP.

I told all you guys he wasn't gonna be traded, and we were going to keep him, so it was best to sign him as cheap as possible this offseason, and not risk yet another top performance in a contract year by our stars.
But we have a goddamn tree as a GM, so that last part was unlikely. Who knows, maybe the media starts putting on pressure on the contract front and we get a mid year signing like we did Matty and Willy last year. Though I'm not worried that Marner is going anywhere, so whatever.
The one we really need to sign now is Knies. Stop letting him drive his price up.

Oh McCabe had a great game. I was about to post about it on that last sequence before the Oilers scored because he totally snuffed out Drai and kept them down. He also had that great diving stick to deflect away an easy tap in. Was hitting guys all night. This was maybe his best game of the year for me.
But then they fucked us on that Tavares stick kick by McDavid, so I went off on that instead.
