GDT #56: 2022/2/22 - Rielly Revenge Game

Looks like i missed the leafs' best game of the year.

Leafs aren't far off from making a run at the president's trophy still.

I'm low key super excited about Keefe's lineup choices right now. He's finally realized that gregor is not a shoo in. Splitting Tavares and Willy is goosing the scoring depth. The easiest slot for Krok to come back in is probably with Kampf and Holmberg, which is the kind of checking line i can get behind. The top-4 D pairings suddenly look very good and balanced, and set up in a way that makes dropping Lilly down again much tougher. Benoit back on the bottom pair where he can be a legit plus, and which also makes it easier to play Timmins if he gets healthy. Woll should be back soon.

I see good things happening if Keefe has finally figured it out.

Man, that was a totally unexpected performance, I fully expected a loss from the get-go.

Quick goal at the start of the second and there we go I thought.

Two quickies in the third, same feeling.

What the fuck is wrong with these guys? They never live up to expectations.

Seriously, other than Jones being a bit leaky, that was a hell of a game. Maintain that level of play and who knows where the limit is.

Damn, there I go getting my hopes up again.

I legit completely forgot at some point in the past month that Yarncock even existed. Really hope he doesn’t bump either of Robertson or McMann out of the top-9 whenever he returns.

And I’d actually prefer if that shitty piece of milquetoast, low-event Dubas depth just never comes back at all. Because yeah, I really love the construction of this forward group at the moment.

I wonder if some teams would want Jarnkrok in return for a trade. He's a serviceable player... popular in the dressing room, so there could be some feelings hurt.. but Calgary might want a player in their forward line up for a Tanev or Hanafin

While this is all true, I’m not expecting Keefer to continue to make such sensible decisions.

I get it.....

I feel Robertson is going to get the shaft when Krok returns. losing his 3RW and I don't see him replacing Reaves or Gregor on the 4RW

I like the way Nicky has played with JT and Mcmann, (He has made some really nice passes to JT) but having JT between Mcmann and Krok could be a heavier line, that has more defensive aspect to it and can pop in some offense.

I like Robertson and want him to stay, and keeping Jarnkrok means that it is most likely that he could be gone in a deal somewhere, again, for the above mentioned reasons as he does not fully project as a 4th liner.
