The Canes look to tie a franchise record 9 game winning streak as they kick off the LA/OC back to back.

During the 8 game winning streak, the Canes have allowed 2 goals or fewer in each game. The Canes practiced yesterday but there was no word on who skated with whom. RBA was hopeful that Svech would be back in the lineup this weekend, but not only does that appear unlikely, Juha Jaaska was recalled from Chicago. So someone else got nicked up. If the goalie rotation holds, Kochetkov goes in goal.

The Kings are almost as hot as the Canes, 6-1 in their last 7. For the season, they have 83 points in 67 games, 2 points behind Edmonton for 2nd in the Pacific, 5 points behind Vegas. They’re 7 points ahead of 4th place Vancouver and have games in hand on all of them. Adrian Kempe leads with 28 goals, Kevin Fiala has 25 but is an incongruous -9, one of the few minus players on the team and worst among the regulars. Anze Kopitar has 37 assists. The Kings have been riding Darcy Kuemper in goal, he’s started the last 5 games, going 4-1 including shutouts of the Caps and Preds. He’s at 2.13/.919 in 40 starts. The Kings also have a back to back so we could see backup David Rittich tonight. He’s at 2.75/.887 in 28 games. The Kings don’t score much, 22nd in goals per game. But they’re 3rd in goals against. One of the big reasons is shot suppression, they’re 2nd, right behind the Canes in shots against per game at 25.4. Their PP is one of the few worse than the Canes, just behind them in 28th at 15.3%. They’re 9th on the PK.

Tough one today. LA is one of the few teams in the NHL with a better home record than the Canes and are the second stingiest defense in the league. Plus, as Andy mentioned, they're on a roll. Maybe getting Big Save Dave Rittich in the other net instead of Kuemper evens it out a bit, but this one won't be easy by any stretch. Knowing Rod, the Canes will probably try to keep their defense tidy and take what they can find in the offensive zone without taking too many risks. Makes sense, but it probably makes for a boring game. Enjoy.

Now, watch ... we'll probably end up with a 5-3 barn-burner
