GDT-Canes @ Kings 4:00pm

Carolina begins a three game west coast swing this afternoon at 4:00 at the Staples Center in LA to face the Kings. The Canes have not played in LA in over three years. The two teams did meet in Raleigh earlier this season, with the visitors earning a 2-1 shootout victory. With these three games taking place over a 4 day period, the importance of earning two points cannot be understated. But Carolina continues to play with puzzling inconsistency. It is one thing to lose a hard fought contest because of their obvious lack of depth, particularly down the middle, and another thing to come out flat like they did against Dallas, or play down to the level of the competition like they did in Buffalo. This team lacks the talent and or wherewith all to jump on teams early and put them in the rear view mirror. Every game it seems, oscillates between truly maddening and outright boring. Expect more of the same today, but hoping someone, somewhere flips a switch and these guys come out collectively as a unit with some fire and heart. Not watching is not an option, for me anyway, so note the mid afternoon puck drop as the torture never stops.

I personally hope the guys lose their next three games before finding their heart. I want to make sure JR understands without a doubt that the team is NOT playoff caliber this year and he has no other choice but to be a seller at the deadline...which then hopefully leads to some front office, coaching and roster changes. As much as I liked the movie, I am sick of the Canes starring in Groundhog Day each year regarding the playoffs.

Don't plan on watching this game. We've lost 5 out of our last 7, as other teams fight for a playoff position. Gives new meaning to "going down the homestretch".

Actually the Kings are pretty good but they have lately struggled to score goals and that may be Canes only hope for a win. They still have most of the team that won the Cup but Daryl doesn't seem to be getting the best from them as Kirk isn't from the Canes. Their D is quite a bit better than the Canes.

semin out today and tomorrow according to chuck @andtheletterk in the radio pre-game ... not watching the TV to see what they're saying

Only saw the last few minutes of this game, but even at the end we seemed to be dumping the puck in, chasing it and losing it. Our man advantage (6 attackers)was a joke. We didn't know that this team had given up long before we fans did. At least now we're in sync.

Good job Canes! Most of the teams immediately in front of them won today as well. JR's decision should be getting easier. C'mon guys keep it up. Losing the next with some other teams winning should push the last wildcard to 9 points out, 5 teams to jump, and 21 games to do it. Hopefully that is clear enough for JR.

They are currently at 5.5% chance -- http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html In typical Canes style, get ready for the playoff invoices!

I believe jr has had enough and will fly back tomorrow with Francis to start looking at names.
I suspect he'll be trying to trade the third and 4th liners as they haven't provided secondary scoring or defense when needed.
The fair haired boys will stay and the next collection of fodder will come in and guess what? Same thing next year"

The fair haired boys!!! I almost pissed my pants at that one! True Windy, JR's idea of blowing it up means he waives Peters, and lands a pair of 6th round picks for Riley Nash and Drayson Bowman.
