The Canes close out the homestand and season series against the Bolts.

The Canes mounted a furious comeback against the Bruins on Sunday, tied it in regulation but couldn’t get it over the line. Freddie gave up a couple of softies but also had a couple of 10 bell saves that kept the team in it. The team didn’t practice or hold media availability yesterday, so we’ll have to wait until the morning skate for any lineup decisions.

The Bolts have lost contact with the Leafs for 2nd in the Atlantic. They’re 7 points behind, 4-5-1 in their last 10 and losers of 4 straight. They only scored 7 goals in those 4 losses. But…Point is 5th in the league with 45 goals, Kucherov is 2nd in the league with 74 assists. And they have 9 guys with at least 10 goals. They can erupt at any time. Vasilevskiy has started 55 games, his save % is just outside the top 10 but his GAA isn’t great at 2.69. Brian Elliott backs him up and he’s at 3.30/.891. The Bolts are 10th in goals per game, 13th in goals against. They’re 5th on the PP and 16th on the PK.

It’s generic bobble head night, with Jaccob Slavin’s name on the bottom. At least they got the beard right. Black jerseys, Bally Sports South for TV.

A. These bobbleheads have been an insult to the industry. Either get a proper partner to produce them next time or just don't bother.

B. Tampa is all sorts of out of whack lately. Not only are they losing, they're getting involved in all sorts of childish outbursts on the ice.

C. Keeping discipline will be a key for the Canes tonight, no matter how frustrating that will be for some folks.

Devils lost last night, so this would be a great time to increase our lead in the Metro. You can bet that the Bolts will be out for blood after a 4-game skid and us demolishing them the last time they were here.

I mean, yes ... but weren't they also supposed to be out for blood in that game? As I recall, their skid had already started and everybody was buzzing about how keyed up they would be for that game in early March. And pfft ...

I'm not saying this one will be easy, but I am saying that Tampa's not the force of nature they've been in seasons past. They can't just show up in a bad mood, decide to roll a team and then proceed to do so with seeming ease anymore. They're a LOT more mortal now.

Whenever you throw out the likes of Jeannot, Maroon, Perry, Cernak, Sergachev etc you are bound to get some filth mixed into the game of hockey. Hopefully it's a well played game without the asshat stuff that Tampa is sometimes known for...

Like the fight 9 seconds into the Bruins game on Saturday?

Fast isn’t on the ice for the morning skate, so Pool Party is on Staal’s line. We should hear after the skate if it was a maintenance day or if he’s a scratch. The lines are as the finished in Sunday, so it’s first line Marty again. Walt Ruff also says the PP units are different this morning. PP1 is back to the future with 2 dmen on it. Aside from the dying seconds of a PP, when is the last time we saw that?

PP1 - Aho, Necas, and Noesen with Burns and Gostisbehere

PP2 - Drury, Kotkaniemi, Jarvis, and Teravainen with Skjei

Yeah, it's hard to really count Ghost and Burns as two defensemen in any traditional sense. What they are is Carolina's two best shooters from range, regardless of position.

Should be a good game, Tampa is showing it's age now; that being said, if they start losing look for Kucherov and company to start playing dirty.
Goals tonight: 1) Keep everyone healthy 2) extend metro lead on NJ

Not so sure it's age so much as their roster construction has just changed a lot over time due to cap constraints. Essentially losing that entire checking line they had 2 years ago plus losing Palat last summer is a substantial change to any roster. And on D they did a really poor job replacing McDonough and Rutta. Any team trotting Hayden Fleury out as much as they have this season has some roster issues.
