The Canes look to take the rubber game of the 3 game season series.

With the Devils spitting the bit last night, tonight’s game won’t be for first in the Metro. Instead, the Canws can send a statement to the Rangers, much like they did the last time these teams played each other, a 6-1 Canes win at MSG in January. The Canes went 2/4 on the PP and 3/3 on the PK. Drury will be out for a while and Guentzel is still a few days away so I’d expect no lineup changes tonight.

The Rangers have been hot since the All Star break at 11-2-1, they’re 7-2-1 in their last 10, the same as the Canes. Artemi Panarin leads with 35 goals and 52 assists. Chris Kreider has 32 goals, Vincent Trocheck and Mika Zibanejad have at least 20, although Zibanejad’s goal last night was his first 5 on 5 goal since December. There will be at least 1 fewer Ranger assing his way around the ice, Jacob Trouba is out for 2-3 weeks with a leg injury suffered last week. We’ll see what Player Safety has to say about Matt Rempe’s hit last night. As noted elsewhere, he’s played 56 minutes and has 54 penalty minutes. Jonathan Quick played last night, so we’ll see Igor Shesterkin in goal tonight. He's at 2.60/.912 on the season but has been lights out since the All Star break at 1.80/.948. He’s who the Canes abused in January. The Rangers are just behind the Canes at 9th in goals per game and just ahead of the Canes at 4th in goals against. They’re inside the top 10 on special teams, 6th on the PP, 5th on the PK. They’re also 5th in faceoff %, 1 spot better the Canes. But that’s primarily due to Trocheck, he’s at 59.9% on nearly 1,200 draws. Zibanejad has taken fewer than 900 and he’s below 50%. The only other regular over 50% is Barclay Goodrow.

Black jerseys tonight, Bally Sports South for TV.

There should be no chance Rempe plays tonight.
That elbow last night should be a minimum 2 game suspension, if not more. That looked deliberate.

No way Rempe avoids suspension for the flying elbow he put on Siegenthaler last night. That was clown show stuff, as was his refusal to answer the bell afterwards.

Did MacDermid try to get Rempe to answer the bell? Did not watch the game but at least now the Devils have someone in that weight class to go after the kid...

He did ... and was vocal afterwards about the kid not keeping "the code"

Guentzel on PP2. Kuznetsov stays on PP1. Aho took Bunting’s spot as the bumper with Kuzy in the lineup, Guentzel is in Drury’s spot on PP2, KK played there on Sunday.

PP1: Aho, Jarvis, Kuznetsov, and Svechnikov with Burns
PP2: Guentzel, Necas, Noesen, and Teravainen with Skjei

That is a seriously scary lineup. I have to say I was very impressed with what the team did on the deadline. They addressed what was needed in the best possible way I think.

This may be the first time Brind'Amour actually did what I would do. That might not be a good thing....:)

Guentzel was activated off IR. Trying to tamp down excitement, Walt Ruff reminds us that it’s not a guarantee that he’s playing, only that it clears the way for him.

To be fair, having Drury get hurt right when Kuznetsov joined the group might have given him few options. You're not handing Guentzel over to KK, I wouldn't think. If they decide to ease him in, you could always just flip him and Noesen for a game or two.
