Win the game, clinch a playoff spot.

The Canes need to get back to whatever drove them on their 7 game point streak. Nothing was good on Tuesday. The lines were juggled a bit at practice, Necas wasn’t feeling 100% so Fast stood in for him tonight, something to keep our eyes on. Andersen should be in goal.

The Red Wings are still fighting for their playoff lives. They're 2 points behind the Caps having played 1 more game and have been their own worse enemy, 3-6-1 in their last 10. Dylan Larkin leads with 28 goals and is averaging nearly a point per game, Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat each have 24. Shayne Gostisbehere leads with 37 assists, Raymond and DeBrincat are right behind. Old friends Alex Lyon and James Reimer are minding the net. Lyon is winless in 8 starts this month with a 4.38/.874 line. Reimer has started 4 and is better at 3.18/.907. We might see Reimer tonight, he won his last 3 starts before turning back to Lyon. Detroit is 8th in goals per game, just ahead of the Canes. They’re 25th in goals against. They’re 10th on the PP and tied for 13th on the PK.

Note the later start tonight, this was supposed to be an ESPN game but it’s on Bally. Red jerseys for the last time this season and Necas bobbleheads to the first 10k.

The Wings have their mess back together after that 7 game loss streak almost sank their post season chances, but this is just not a team built for the playoffs quite yet. They should be desperate though. This is the midpoint of a five game road trip that saw them drop their first two in closely fought contests. After this they slog down for the Florida swing, and if they go 0-fer on this roadie then they can go ahead and start thinking about the off season. So yeah ... they'll be looking to empty the proverbial tank tonight.

FWIW, this will be Svech's 400th NHL game tonight. Let's agree to root for a hat trick ... of goals, not minors.

Pre-game show was all about Svech and his issues, and how he's just in a slump and it was all touchy feely about building his confidence......
