TV: SNP, FS-W
The Latest: The NHL-leading Anaheim Ducks (42-18-7, 91 pts.) begin a three-game road trip against Vancouver Canucks Monday at Rogers Arena (7 p.m. PST, Fox Sports West/AM 830). The Ducks have the second-most wins and standings points through 67 games in franchise history, trailing only the 2013-14 club (44-16-7, 95). Anaheim also has the most wins (20-8-4) and standings points (44) through 32 road games in team history. The Ducks have won four of their last five games (4-1-0), seven of their last nine (7-2-0) and scored 20 third-period goals in those nine contests. The club has 74 third-period goals this season, fourth among NHL teams. Anaheim has the top intra-division record among Western Conference opponents, posting a 28-7-5 mark for a .763 points percentage. The club is also 15-4-5 vs. the Pacific, having won four straight (4-0-0) and seven of eight (7-1-0). The Ducks own the league's second-longest active road winning streak at five games (5-0-0), behind only Minnesota six-game road win streak. On special teams, Anaheim has killed 21 of the last 24 penalties since Feb. 21 for a 87.5% PK rate. The current road trip also features stops in Calgary (Wednesday, March 11, 6:30 p.m.) and Minnesota (Friday, March 13).
Ducks-Canucks: Vancouver and Anaheim conclude a five-game season series tonight at Rogers Arena. The Ducks have earned standings points in 10 straight games over the Canucks (9-0-1, 19 pts.) and are 11-1-2 in the last 14 contests. Overall, Anaheim has posted a 40-35-16 record in 91 all-time games vs. Vancouver and won a club-tying six straight games at Rogers Arena since Nov. 10, 2013 (the Ducks' last six-game win streak in Vancouver came Jan. 17, 2004-Nov. 30, 2006). The first three games of this season series were decided in extra time (2-1 Ducks OT win on Dec. 28, 2-1 Canucks SO win on Nov. 9 and 4-3 Ducks SO win on Nov. 20) before a 4-0 shutout victory by Anaheim on Jan. 27 at Rogers Arena. Ryan Getzlaf leads active Ducks in all-time scoring vs. the Canucks, collecting 35 points (10g/25a) in 37 career games.
Ducks team scope: Left wing Matt Beleskey (upper body) and defensemen Sami Vatanen (lower body) and James Wisniewski (foot) each practiced in Anaheim on Sunday before traveling to Vancouver and could return during the three-game road trip. None is likely to face the Canucks. "They all looked like they were practicing well," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "I'm thinking by the end of the week, they're all eligible unless any of them have a setback." Beleskey, who has 21 goals, and Vatanen, who has seven power-play goals, have not played since Feb. 15. Wisniewski, acquired in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets at the March 2 NHL Trade Deadline, has not played a game with the Ducks. Boudreau shook up three of his forward lines at practice, moving Patrick Maroon from the fourth to first line as part of the changes, which he hopes will help the power play once Vatanen and the hard-shooting Wisniewski are ready. "We're trying to get two units that can move forward and be good," Boudreau said. Rookie goalie John Gibson, who had a shutout in his NHL debut in Vancouver last April, might start. Andersen allowed four goals on 20 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.
Canucks team scope: Vancouver, which rallied for a 3-2 win against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, continues to get healthier after hanging on to second place in the Pacific Division through a rash of injuries. Top defenseman Alexander Edler and forward Alexandre Burrows, who was playing on the top line before he was injured, each returned to the lineup Thursday after missing several weeks. Center Brad Richardson and defenseman Christopher Tanev may return this week. Tanev, who has been on the top pairing with Edler, hasn't played since hitting his head on the goal against the Calgary Flames on Feb. 14. He skated and was expected to return last week, but then had to stop. Tanev wasn't sure if he'd return against Anaheim after skating with Edler in practice Sunday. "It's obviously tough," Tanev said. "You feel good for a few days, and then you don't."
