The Latest: The NHL-leading Anaheim Ducks (34-12-6, 74 pts.) continue five-game road trip against the Washington Capitals tonight at the Verizon Center (4 p.m. PST, Prime Ticket/AM 830). Currently leading the NHL in standings points and co-leading in victories with St. Louis, the Ducks have won eight of the last 10 games (8-2-0) and gone 12-4-1 in the last 17. Anaheim finished the month of January with an 8-3-0 record, tied for third among NHL teams in victories and matching the third-best January points percentage in club history (.727). The Ducks lead the NHL with 23 wins in one-goal games (23-0-6) and are the only NHL team without a regulation loss in a game decided by one goal. When scoring first, the club is 25-1-5 and one of three NHL teams with only one regulation loss in such situations. The Ducks (17-0-2, .895, third) also join New Jersey as the only two clubs without a regulation loss when leading after one and Montreal as the two teams without a regulation loss when tied after two (6-0-2, .800, fourth). On special teams, the club is 9-for-33 (27.3%) on the power play and 33-for-37 in penalty kills (89.2%) since Jan. 7.

Tonight’s game concludes Anaheim’s 10th set of back-to-back games this season. The Ducks are 10-7-2 in back-to-back games and 5-4-0 in the second contest. The road trip also includes stops in Tampa Bay (Feb. 8), Florida (Feb. 10) and Carolina (Feb. 12).

Ducks-Capitals: Tonight begins a two-game season series between Anaheim and Washington at the Verizon Center. The Ducks own an all-time record of 14-10-3 vs. the Capitals along with an 8-5-1 mark in the nation's capital. Anaheim earned a 3-2 victory in its last visit to the Verizon Center on Dec. 23, 2013 and has gone 6-3-1 in its last 10 games in Washington.Corey Perry has 11 points (3g/8a) in nine career games vs. the Capitals, tops among Ducks skaters. These two teams will meet again on Feb. 15 to conclude the season series at Honda Center.

Ducks Team Scope: The Ducks defeated the Nashville Predators on Thursday, claiming sole possession of the NHL's best record with 74 points in a 5-2 victory.

Anaheim won without captain Ryan Getzlaf, who was a late scratch after aggravating a lower-body injury during warm-ups. Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau did not provide a status update after the game, but did say that Getzlaf would accompany the team to Washington.

"I wouldn't even call it doubtful, questionable," said Boudreau. "It's an 'I don't know.' Wake up and see how he feels."

Jakob Silfverberg tied a career high with two goals (including his fourth career shorthanded goal) and Rickard Rakellmatched a career best in assists (two) in the victory, snapping Nashville's franchise-record nine-game home winning streak. Frederik Andersen (49-12-5) joined Montreal’s Bill Durnan as the fastest goaltenders in NHL history to 49 wins, accomplishing the feat in 66 career decisions, while Corey Perry notched his team-leading 22nd goal and Matt Beleskeyrecorded his first career 20-goal campaign.

"We didn’t get frustrated in the third period despite not getting a lot of shots on net," said Silfverberg. "We had to play defense pretty much the whole period, but we stuck with it. Freddy [Andersen] played a heck of a game. It’s a tough building to win in, but we did it today, and that’s great."

Capitals Team Scope: Washington recalled goaltender Philipp Grubauer from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League on Friday morning and could give him the start.

Grubauer was 6-5-5 with a 2.38 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in 14 starts for the Capitals last season. He is 16-9-4 with a 2.03 GAA and .924 save percentage for Hershey this season, earning a selection to the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic as a replacement.

The Capitals broke a five-game road losing streak Thursday against the Ottawa Senators. Washington's 2-1 win was its second this season when allowing the first goal and first since Nov. 7 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Goaltender Braden Holtby made 25 saves and has allowed two total goals in his past four starts. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he is the first Capitals goaltender since Jim Carey in 1996 to allow no more than two goals over a four-start span in one season.
