TV: FS-W, CITY
The Latest: The NHL-leading Anaheim Ducks (20-6-5, 45 pts.) play the second game of a five-game, nine-day road trip against the Winnipeg Jets Saturday at the MTS Centre (4 p.m. PST, FOX Sports West/AM 830). Currently leading the NHL in standings points and co-leading in victories, the Ducks have won six consecutive games, nine of their last 11 (9-2-0) and earned 45 points in their last 29 (20-5-5). The club's six-game winning streak is the league's second-longest active win streak behind only Chicago (eight games) and is one shy of its season best of seven (last: Oct. 11-24). Twelve of Anaheim's last 13 victories have been one-goal games dating to a 1-0 win on Oct. 28 at Chicago, including five decided in extra time (two overtime, three shootout). The club 's 12 straight wins by one goal from Oct. 28-Dec. 10 were the most in the NHL since Atlanta had 14 in 2010-11. The Ducks lead the NHL with 15 wins in one-goal games (15-0-5) and join Vancouver as the only two NHL teams without a regulation loss in a game decided by one goal. Anaheim also ranks third among NHL teams for winning percentage in one-goal games (.750). Since the beginning of the 2012-13 season, the Ducks have posted a 56-6-19 record in one-goal games, owning the top record in the NHL by win percentage (.809).
Anaheim is 4-4-0 in back-to-back games this season, including 2-2-0 in the second game. Dating to the start of the 2013-14 season, Anaheim is 23-9-4 in back-to-back situations and 13-3-2 in the second game, an NHL best by win percentage (.778). The Ducks opened their current set of back-to-back games with a 4-2 result Friday in Edmonton. This current road trip will also make stops in Toronto (Dec. 16), Montreal (Dec. 18) and Ottawa (Dec. 19). Anaheim's final game before the Christmas break will be played on Dec. 22 vs. San Jose at Honda Center.
Ducks-Jets: Anaheim and Winnipeg continue a three-game season series with the second game within a seven-day stretch Saturday at the MTS Centre. The Ducks are 10-7-1 vs. the Jets with a 6-3-0 record on the road. Anaheim has won two straight games in Winnipeg, including a 4-3 overtime win on Dec. 7. Kyle Palmieri scored his first career OT goal 53 seconds into the extra frame that day, while Ryan Getzlaf earned a season-high three assists (0-3=3), including the primary helper on Palmieri's OT winner. With 2-9=11 points in in nine games, Getzlaf leads active Ducks skaters in career scoring vs. the Jets franchise. Following the game, these two teams will conclude the season series on Jan. 11 at Honda Center.
Ducks team scope: Anaheim began a five-game road trip with a 4-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday, their sixth consecutive win. The win, the Ducks’ 20th this season, tied them with the Chicago Blackhawks for most in the NHL and gave Anaheim a four-point lead in the overall league standings heading into play on Saturday. Palmieri (two goals, three assists) and center Ryan Kesler (four goals, two assists) each have points in four consecutive games. GoaltenderFrederik Andersen started for the 17th consecutive game and made 21 saves. Defenseman Ben Lovejoy returned to the Anaheim lineup after missing 21 games with a broken finger. Right wing Corey Perry remains out with a knee injury sustained Dec. 5 against the Minnesota Wild.
Jets team scope: Winnipeg did not practice Friday after returning from a two-game road trip. The Jets lost 4-3 in a shootout against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, ending their road trip at 1-0-1 and have earned least one point for eight consecutive games (5-0-3). Saturday begins a four-game home stand for the Jets, who are playing nine of 13 games at MTS Centre in December. Left wing Evander Kane will return from his two-game suspension, and the Jets returned center Patrice Cormier to the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League on Friday to make room on the roster. With coach Paul Maurice rotating his goaltenders, Michael Hutchinson is expected to start Saturday. Defensemen Zach Bogosian (lower body), Grant Clitsome (undisclosed) and Toby Enstrom (lower body) are out for Winnipeg.
