TV: PRIME, CSN-CA

The Latest: The Anaheim Ducks (7-1-0, 14 pts.) conclude a five-game homestand Sunday against the San Jose Sharks at Honda Center (5 p.m. PDT, Prime Ticket, AM 830). The Ducks are in the midst of playing six consecutive games vs. teams that reached the playoffs last season and meeting their first Pacific Division opponent of the season tonight in the Sharks. The Ducks enter the game leading the league in wins, standings points, goals (28, excludes shootout) and goal differential (+13, excludes shootout). Anaheim is currently riding its fourth win streak of seven games-or-more (now at 7) since the start of 2013-14. There have been only 10 total win streaks of seven games-or-more by NHL teams since the start of the 2013-14 season, four of which are by the Ducks.

Anaheim's seven-game win streak is the league’s longest since Boston won 12 straight from March 2-22, 2014. The Ducks continue to match the best start in franchise history by wins (also 2013-14, 7-1-0) and by points (also 2013-14 and 2006-07, 14). The club has scored three goals-or-more in seven of its eight games and allowed two goals-or-less in six of eight.

Season series: Anaheim and San Jose begin a five-game season series Sunday at Honda Center. Three games will be played in Anaheim and another two in San Jose in 2014-15. The Ducks are 54-54-10 all-time vs. the Sharks and own a 27-27-5 home record against their Pacific Division rival. Anaheim posted a 2-2-1 record vs. San Jose last season, winning both games played at Honda Center. Ryan Getzlaf paces Anaheim skaters in career scoring vs. San Jose, notching 9-35=44 points in 53 games. Following the game, the season series will continue with games at Honda Center on December 22 and 31, and at SAP Center on November 29 and January 29.

Ducks team scope: The Ducks have outscored their opponents 13-3 at Honda Center so far this season, including a 4-1 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. Defenseman Sami Vatanen has been a key to the Ducks' early-season success. The 23-year-old defenseman led the NHL in power-play points (7) entering Saturday; he has three goals with the man advantage. "We have a good power play going," he said. "It's all five guys working, and I just get the points." Anaheim is 8-for-32 (25 percent) on the power play. Frederik Andersen, who is 6-0-0 with a 1.32 goals-against average and .951 save percentage, is expected back in goal after rookie John Gibson got the call against Columbus.

Defenseman Cam Fowler couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason for the team’s recent success, but circled back to a common theme - confidence. “Once this group gets some confidence and starts seeing the results, it does wonders for us,” he said. “Bruce does a good job preparing us for every game and making sure we’re ready mentally. I think it’s easy once you get a few under you. You want to have that feeling all the time.

“We’re just trying to take it game-by-game and keep this thing going.”

Sharks team scope: San Jose has lost four in a row after opening the season 4-0-1. The Sharks have been outscored 16-8 during the losing streak. The Buffalo Sabres, who were averaging one goal per game through their first eight, defeated the Sharks 2-1 at SAP Center on Saturday for their second win of the season and the first that didn't involve a shootout. "We shouldn't lose a game like that," Couture said. "We have a lot to figure out right now. I think it's good for us to have a quick turnaround. I think it stings that we lost four in a row. I could care less about what the Buffalo Sabres are doing right now. The San Jose Sharks have lost four straight games and two at home." Antti Niemi will likely be back in goal against the Ducks after Alex Stalock took the loss Saturday.
