He will be fine. He has looked better than expected at times defensively.. You can't expect defensive stalwart from a 168 lb kid.

I feel he is only learning to exploit his skill set, I see him as a 50 goal guy in short order. My concern is long term health. The size does carry obvious disadvantages.
