With the playoffs clinched, the Canes can set their sights on the division.

Zilla had his 2nd shutout of the season on Thursday, boosting his record since his return to 7-0 with a tidy 1.14 GAA and .957 save %. Aho and Jarvis had 3 points, Guentzel stayed hot with 2 assists and has 14 points in 10 games. And Kuzy got in on the action with a sweet pass for Necas to bury. Fast may be back in today, if so, we’ll see who comes out. Expect Kochetkov in goal.

The Habs are battling the Sens for 7th in the Atlantic. They’re comfortably ahead of Columbus at the bottom of the conference. Montreal is 4-4-2 in their last 10 but have won 3 straight, allowing 1 goal in each of the wins. Nick Suzuki has 30 goals for the first time in his career and is averaging just under a point per game. Mike Matheson has 41 assists. The Habs dealt Jake Allen to the Devils at the deadline, ending the 3 headed monster in goal. Since the deadline, Sam Montembeault and Cayden Primeau have split the goal with 5 and 4 starts respectively. Primeau has allowed 1 goal or fewer in 3 of his 4 starts but he played Thursday, so we’ll probably see Montembeault tonight. He's at 2.59/.904 since the deadline. Montreal is 27th in goals per game and 25th in goals against, but they’re 5th in goals against since the deadline. They’re 23rd on both the PP and PK.

I noticed that Drury started out on the wing on the 4th line, but got switched to center during the 2nd period. I didn't think Kotkamiemi played badly up to that point but that could be an indication of where the Canes are heading when Fast is fully ready to go. They really value his penalty killing and his ability to shift roles on the fly. And the fact that his effort level is never determined by how he's playing. You get what he's got. Every time.

Yeah, that's been a pretty common refrain from Montreal in the second half. Solid enough effort but either the scoring or the goal tending (or both) lets them down. They aren't bad, but they aren't good either.

our effort is there all the time, but we only have one legit NHL line and then Newhook. After we traded Monahan, we stopped winning with any regularity.

I'm happy for Habs fans that Slafkovsky is looking more and more like a legit top line guy. Still not sure why the Habs insist on rushing these high picks from the Euro leagues in the NHL, but Slafkovsky looks like he could be a solid 30+ goal winger down the road.

only other one we "rushed" was Mole and he is just a flat out bust
