The Canes kick off a weekend back to back and 4 game roadie in the Motor City.

Clinched, for the 7th straight year, tying the Whalers run from 1985-92. The Canes scored early and responded to the Caps douchebaggery to send a message that, while they might not be the biggest team in the league, they won’t be pushed around. Jackson Blake had his first multi-goal game, Jarvis hit 30 goals again and the PP remained hot, scoring 3 goals. The downside? Staal missed another game and Svech picked up another knock of some sort and didn’t play at all in the 3rd period. Justin Robidas got his first NHL callup, he's 3rd on the Wolves in scoring, 2nd in goals. If the goalie rotation holds, we’ll see Kochetkov in goal. He broke a 2 game losing streak on Sunday but didn’t look particularly good, posting his 3rd straight sub-.900 save %.

The Red Wings are still on the outside of the playoffs, 6 points out of the 2nd Wild Card with 1 game in hand on the Habs. It looks like they’ll miss the playoffs for the 9th straight year, extending the club record. They were bad for most of the 70s but snuck into the playoffs in 1977-78. But after losing the 1966 Final, they missed the playoffs in 13 of the next 15 seasons. They’re 4-10-1 in their last 15 games. Alex DeBrincat leads with 33 goals. Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond could also get to 30 goals. Raymond has 47 assists and is averaging just under a point per game. Patrick Kane is hot, he has 17 points in their last 15 games. The Wings traded for Petr Mrazek at the deadline and have used 3 goalies over the last several weeks with Mrazek and Alex Lyon playing 5 games and Cam Talbot playing 7. All 3 are on their roster, so it’s a coin flip. The Wings went with Lyon and Mrazek in the games in March, maybe we’ll see Talbot tonight. He’s at 2.92/.903 in 41 games. Detroit is 21st in goals per game, 22nd in goals against. They’re 3rd on the PP, but their PK is dreadful, DFL at 69%.

I dunno. Talbot has played 3 in a row, and Mrazek hasn't started since March 18th. They're paying the guy so they may as well use him. At this point the Wings are out of contention for all practical purposes. May as well think about next year and just roll with Mrazek and Talbot since those are the two guys under contract.

For Carolina, you may as well keep alternating. It keeps Andersen fresh and allows Kochetkov a chance to continue to dig his head out of his posterior. And even though the Canes are locked into playoff position, they have to keep an eye on next year too. One of these two needs to get walking papers. The Canes took the day off yesterday, aside from travel, and that usually means a ragged start. Again, not a lot to play for at this point for the Hurricanes. They'll keep the injured on the sidelines, roll the lines and try to just play their game. We could see Robidas tonight and potentially get two lines filled with short guys. Fun.

OK, that tracks. Can't pretend to have been following the Wings very closely since they went to 3 goalies. Talbot probably has the best track record against Carolina anyway.
