Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

I would absolutely not play Farrell against the Islanders. Islanders are in a must-win or they miss the playoffs. The game's already too fast for him as we speak.

Bawstun, the day after, however... Odds are they're going to play a no hitter, sit a bunch of their veterans, a lot players going through the motions... That's when he should play.

I am not sure sending these players down is helping the Rocket. After spending a couple of months or so in the land of milk and honey, Ylonen and RHP probably feel zero loyalty towards the Rocket and Houle. Not to mention, Primeau will probably shit the bed if he starts Monday. And Schueneman is just playing way too much hockey without a break.

If Farrell in the lineup makes it easier for the Isles to win then he should play.

Assuming HuGo resign all RFAs & lets all 10 UFAs in Montreal and Laval walk….the two teams still don't have enough roster spots on both Montreal and Laval to keep everyone.

Habs will need to move out bodies (for roster space), and the team is primed to add quality over quantity if the opportunity arises.

The 50 draft picks over the last 4 years is starting to impact org roster space

Not difficult to clear out 10 contracts. Habs only have 35 contracts next year.

Drouin
Belzille
Tierney
Gurianov
Pezzetta
Byron
Monahan (still think HuGo wants to reup him)
Richard
Leskinen
Bowey
Shueneman

The following guys have a year left (23-24) and maybe can get moved by deadline.

Hoffman
Pitlick
Edmunson
Wideman
Karl Alzner finally one year left on that stinker of a signing)

Guys with 2 years left that should be gone, these will be more difficult to move.

Dvorak
Evans
Armia

Goalies

Allen has 2 more years. No clue why.

Monty has 1. I would keep him over Allen.

Price: will he retire already or what?

Not sure what you are talking about, by that math we have 24 forwards signed, 15 defensemen, 4 goalies.

And that's assuming we resign Gurianov (I doubt it), Pezzetta (probably), Teasdale (probably), Condotta (I doubt it), Stephens (no) and Beaudin (probably). However I can see us resigning Monahan and Richard, both UFAs.

?

Sure there is. There's plenty of space. The solution's actually very simple if you're worried about space: Sign a bunch of players to AHL deals. Players like Brandon Gignac is signed to an AHL deal and doesn't count to the 50 contracts.

Caufield-Suzuki-Anderson
Gallagher-Dach-RHP
Armia-Dvorak-Hoffman (assuming Hoffman isn't bought out)
Pitlick-Evans-UFA
Pezzetta
Belzile

Matheson-Savard
Guhle-Barron
Edmundson-Kovacevic
Xhekaj-Harris

Allen
Montembault
Primeau
Price

That's 28 contracts. (27 if Hoffman is bought out) Add one more spot for Monahan if he stays.

And then at Laval, or on the fringes of making it, are:

Wideman, Slafkovsky, Teasdale, Heineman, Ylonen, Kidney, Roy, Struble, Mysak, Richard, Mailloux, Beaudin, Norlinder, Trudeau, Fairbrother, Struble, Dobes

That's 17 contracts.

We're more than fine.
