Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Meh in the sense that, Pezzetta's not a player I care for one way or another. Wouldn't have cared if we had traded him for another team's 13th/14th forward.

I like that they're giving those type of contracts out to players. It's a great way to attract AHL veterans: Guarantee them an NHL salary in the minors.
Have to factor in that he knows the system, is likely good in the room and listens to everything Marty says. Why go out and get an unknown to replace?

He needed half a season to remember he’s a north-south 4th line plumber, it seems. He was better in the latter part of the season playing with other plumbers.

As long as he does that, fine.

Just for GGpX, I think we should target Anthony Mantha this summer, get the Caps to throw in a pick for the cap relief.

Signed and I think it would be a logical trade to make on both sides. Washington's going to squeeze that spunge dry until Ovechkin breaks Gretzky's record, and then they'll embark on a long & painful rebuild. Might as well take advantage of it.

One of my least favorite types of players, but if we can get a 2nd round pick to acquire his contract? And maybe even flip him at the deadline with 50% retained?

Caps would pay a lot for fifth overall if Michkov was still available. A lot.
I'm sure they would, but beyond trading up from 8th to 5th, which would in theory cost them this year's second and maybe a tiny bit more, the Caps aren't rolling in tons of future assets.

Random thought: I don't think there's a rule in the NHL that prohibits teams from trading picks very far down the road. In the NBA, I think teams can only trade their picks from 5 years in the future and they can't trade in consecutive years.

I would try to do more trades like we did last summer with Monahan: Acquire a bad contract, but receive a first round pick three years from now.

I don’t care much about Mantha either but like you said, for a 2nd and flip later, why not?

very interesting… Pollock and earlier GMs were HOFers (builders category), but none of Grundman, Serge Savard, Houle, André Savard, Gainey (for obvious reasons), Gauthier, ever found GM employment after Habs

Doesn’t look overly promising for MB…

Pollock replaced Selke when Selke retired. Then Pollock essentially retired. Every GM we've had since, aside from perhaps Serge Savard and Gainey, couldn't get hired by another franchise to save their life. They only got the Habs gig because they were French and willing to work cheap, not because they were any good at managing.

Yet no one hired Serge..

Gainey was an anomaly- his daughters tragic passing
