Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

The trade was fine. We got a second & a fourth in exchange for $2.4M dead capspace for 2 seasons and allowing us to get rid of Hoffman. Do I wish we got more? Sure, but if you have no intention of actually having the player on your team and nobody's offering you anything? You do what you have to do.

The salary retention is irrelevant in the larger scheme of things and I would have bought out Hoffman. I don't care that Hoffman only has a year left on his deal, I didn't want him anywhere near this team. The Hoffman buyout in ofitself would have been roughly the same amount of dead capspace.
It's pretty much a Hoffman buy out, except that we got a 2nd, a 4th and a depth defensemen as compensation.

Pretty much.

So if you look at it from the viewpoint that we got a second & fourth in a few years for $2.4M of dead capspace? I don't think that's bad at all.

Again, I wish we could have gotten more, but if nobody's offering anything of value and there's no chance you're going to have the player on the team?

Yup, Hugo is very thorough and if this is the best they can get so be it

Petry was done here and team had no benefit waiting for the trade deadline or a trade mid season

Winnipeg. They might melt down. Maybe Calgary is in trouble? Islanders?

I think Zona is better. And they get to play those other awful teams in the west.

One note of interest from today’s presser: Hughes plans to have Price on the roster this off season and will only LTIR him during the season… I suppose he will then use that space to absorb bad contracts for futures

To get there, Hughes will have to get creative rather quickly

All it'll require is to have two players on ELCs start in Laval for just enough time to be under the cap so that we can put Price on LTIR, and then call those two back up the next day.

Yeah, there are enough waiver exempts to do that. And one of them may need to stay there for a little while, so cap space to take a dud could be ~7.5M.
