Athletic with a nice piece today on whether Suzuki/Cole are the key pieces of a contender or just nice pieces. They both have a lot of work to do in their own end.

Athletic with a nice piece today on whether Suzuki/Cole are the key pieces of a contender or just nice pieces. They both have a lot of work to do in their own end.

Suzuki has been guilty of taking too long shifts and cheating to create offense as he's feeling the brunt of having to produce all the offense for the team. I'm not too worried, he can play defense if he wants to, having a full season of Caufield, more offense from the 2nd & 3rd lines, and hopefully an improved defensive corps to spend less time in our end should help his underlying numbers.

But the point remains, it's doubtful that he becomes a legit 1C.

Canadiens' big question: Are Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield key pieces of a contending core?

Improvement at the top of the lineup is going to be necessary for the Canadiens this season. Can Suzuki and Caufield provide that?

Both are elite secondary pieces to a contender , not the core leaders
