Did we ever really tank, though? Honestly.

I could listen to arguments that we pulled the ol' unintentional tanking thing. We just had a terribly built team with no prospects and a shit ton of money tied in bad contracts - every single one of those contracts was seen as bad, btw - and went through a huge string of injuries. That's not tanking, that's just shitty roster building. Thanks, The Charlatan!

As for offer, I mentioned last week if Eiserman, Demidov, Lindstrom are off the board when Habs pick comes up, I definitely see a repeat of Dach scenario of 9-12OA pick being flipped for Zegras.

I watched some games with Catton , this dude is a hell of a prospect with a high motor and elite skill

Team never tanked , roster was so fucken flawed

Injuries didnt help but Habs are exactly where they should be after 3 years of a reboot

Verbeek really likes Xhekaj apparently. I would do it with Winnipeg's first, Xhekaj, a 2027 3rd and a throw in player like Ylonen. Someone they can at least put on the ice.

Now that's not much in terms of potential for Zegras but it's plenty for the current actual.

The question's simple: Since Gorton & Hughes have been here, has this team been intentionally trying to tank? The answer is very clearly no.

Except for the fact that you can sit and do nothing to allow the probability of losing to increase which is tacit tanking.

Or, you can do what San Jose & Chicago are doing: Eat shit for a few years, draft a few times in the top 3 and get rid of as many of the bad long-term contracts on your team as humanly possible, whether by trade, buyout or simply waiting it out.

Sitting idly by and watching the parade pass you by when you're actively letting players like Matheson & Monahan positively impact the results of game is counter-productive.

What does that have to do with tanking? That's just a flavor of tanking that you prefer, SJ is not Montreal and it's the corporate sponsors, not you or I, that apply the pressure. For someone that tells people he hopes they realize crap you have a few blind spots yourself mate.

San Jose isn't Montreal, sure. You know who San Jose isn't either? Chicago, along with their corporate sponsors.

It is a different form of tanking; A much more effective and efficient way than sitting on your hands. If Chicago ends up picking first overall pick and have their new tandem of Kane & Toews for the next 15 years, with only $43M in money allocated to next year's roster and only 7 contracts that expired beyond the end of the 2025 season, while we have... Slafkovsky, Reinbacher & one of Helenius/Catton/Demidov, $67.32M already allocated in next year's contracts, with 6 contracts that expire beyond the 2025 season.

I think the outlook is very clear and very easy to understand. One team cleared the decks and has put themselves in the very best possible situation to draft in the lottery for a few years, while the other team is hoping and hoping and hoping...

Maybe it's just me, and maybe it's watching Minnesota's strategy of, you never know dude! and half measures? While never picking in the lottery and arguably never having a true franchise player in the history of their franchise since they returned to the NHL? Yeah, all of that seems really, really fucking stupid if the end goal is to win a Stanley Cup. If your goal is just to fill the arena and make money, then cool, sitting on your hands and selling hope sounds fine and dandy. The passive and safe way.

Give me the aggressive way.

I'm sensing you prefer a strategy that will never happen while Molson owns the team. Ever. I've lived this numerous times with those douchebags. So either find a team that's using the strategy you prefer or sftu about something we can't change ok mate? It's just whinging otherwise

Tough to do the Hawks strategy when you have many fucked up contracts in place by Nero

11 and 31 eat 18 mil that you cant unwind overnight , sprinkle in your Armia and others and you have nearly have half a cap of junk
