Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Team is not contending anytime soon

Those are shit contracts but with a ton coming off the cap soon and Price`s contract one year closer to being moved , its not a bog concern

Slaf will get paid and Guhle probably bridged or traded , the available cap dollars is not an issue

If they can move Anderson with retention, do it.

Gallagher will need to bought out, eventually.

Opinion I've held on to for a while now: One of those Gallagher / Anderson type deals are much, much worse for your team than any miss you might have with a first round pick.
Gotta pay to make go away.

If they get a couple of picks, use some to pick up young offensive potential, some to draft and ideally some to dump salary.

I think we have the rest of this year and all of next with Gally and Highandwide.

(If you didn’t know his full name as called out by announcers is “Anderson Missedthenet Highandwide.

We will likely keep Armia that long too.

The management will justify continuity and leadership with them as third and fourth liners.

They will be let down by the tired vets. Then they’ll pay with draft picks to make the mistakes go by by

Armia’s contract will probably just expire. That’s probably the least painful option.

Highandwide is a north-south hammer head, albeit earnestly hard working, who might be moveable at a low price.

Gallagher will be bought out.

FYI no Canadiens GM has ever missed the post season 3 yrs in a row and kept his job. Now Hughes might but he would also be the first GM to manage a Canadiens' team that misses four in a row (we have not missed 4 in a row ever iirc)

No other other Habs GM has inherited a class 5 shit typhoon like this.

But this year he will have to start making some really interesting decisions because several players will cease being waiver exempt. They will be forced to act.

This situation is worse, especially due to catastrophic contracts.
not sure about that, when Savard took over, we were playing Laflamme Robidas, Bouillon, Bashkirov et al

He did have Theodore, Koivu and Malakhov.

We had basically no prospects at all, our best was Jason Ward! He did well in UFA July 1 2001

Iirc Houle traded Malakhov to NJD (Souray deal), André Savard had Eric Weinrich (traded him to Boston, last deal w Bruins)

if there is no improvement next year
What would you have him done differently in his tenure?

I mean, I agree it will be disappointing if we finish bottom 5 next year without major injuries, but they have a clear plan and they are sticking to it. Have they done any bad moves? They've created 2 first round picks out of thin air with Monahan. They've gotten a lot of value for their rentals (Chariot!!) That Petry for Matheson deal is amazing. Looks like they've nailed the Slafkovsky pick which is probably the most important decision they've had to make so far.

If I'm cherry picking in hindsight maybe they could have held on to Lehkonen. Pretty much it.

Stay the course.

They have an A grade

Lek would of been another bad contract on a team going nowhere

If he was 22 fine but not heading into his thirties on a shit team

This was a total fucken tear down and squat to start with

Its a year further in development than I thought

Needed 3-4 years just to get to a starting base to evaluate the future and take out the trash left behind

Not sure I agree. I think missing out on Tkachuk, Hughes, Giroux, etc, hurt us more than Gallagher’s contract.
