Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

I dunno, 2003 draft wasn’t exactly Gainey’s fault
Wasn’t Savard either. He always been pretty clear that he would have drafted Carter, and who knows who else. And he would have drafted Giroux as well.

Not to mention not losing Beauchemin, Ribeiro, Robidas for absolutely nothing.

But I’ll give Gainey Price, the 2007 draft minus the McDonagh blunder and Kovalev.

So in a sense it was, instead of working with Savard in a HuGo style, he pushed him aside instead. He admitted himself he was rusty and not in touch with the game at that moment and I guess put his trust in Timmins instead.

Currently slotted for the 6th overall pick by win %. Very close to 5th which is achievable. We won’t get lower than that.

I think the intentional tank is over. They are dropping due to roster turnover (Monahan) and the basic fact that three lines are terrible (though Newhook and Roy don’t look useless) and the goaltending isn’t bailing them out.

5th pick overall is our natural resting place, for now, but I expect the HuGo moves will be to continue the turnover and to actively improve the roster with the intent to get better.

Dach return + natural improvement from our young'uns + a HuGo addition should make us vastly more competitive next year.

Not yet playoff calibre but not so far away that we can't see it.

Slafkovsky’s production has more or less swapped out Anderson’s, which is basically non-existent.

The upshot is that he’s a kid rapidly ascending a curve compared to a north south veteran who is in decline.

Josh's Shooting percentage as a Hab thru the years. Cut in half this year after three years of consistency.

Jesse is pretty shit for a 35th overall pick. But 2018 was a crappy draft class. At least we grabbed Romanov at 38 that year.
