Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Lots of red flags that bothers me about Zegras. He fits the profile for age and skills but not sure about character. If cheap than maybe, but I wouldn’t overpay for him.

Same. He looks like a candidate for less artsy, more fartsy. Michigans are cute, but let’s talk about backchecking and battles along the wall.

I'm less concerned with Zegras' alleged character issues than I am with Shane Wright's. When I saw that death stare on draft day I didn't see a guy motivated to prove anyone wrong. I saw an entitled little asshole who was embarrassed that he was passed over by 3 teams trying to save face by acting tough.

MSL seems to be a hockey whisperer to this generation of player who seemingly need to be approached in a very different manner than previous generations.

Can’t see Verbeek the type to bridge that gap

No, let's talk about putting pucks in the net. We have a farm system chock-full of talentless humps who can backcheck and battle along the wall. I don't want a top 6 center battling on the wall. I want him accumulating goals and assists in large quantities.

Classic example is Therrien's recent comments about Pezzetta's exuberant celly's. Michel the Dinosaur is not amused and I, for one, am grateful that he is no longer employed by the Habs. This is the triple low five scandal all over again.

Therrien also said recently, he banned Subban’s triple low five because he felt it went against his philosophy of team first concept, but added if he was coach today he would need to adjust to this generation of player because times are different & that’s the reality of todays player.

Needless to say I was floored Therrien would openly admit such…

I already know he can put pucks in the net. He’s not a talentless hump. But he can’t be a Mitch Marner. Remember him? He plays for your favourite team.

To win in this league, he needs to be talented and a committed battler. If he can’t do that, then be-bye.

He's simping for another gig. But in reality he hasn't changed. People like that don't change.

For all the flack Marner’a getting, Make Beliefs don’t win game 2 without his effective penalty killing… he’s a solid 2-way player which people forget far too often

Well he's an American of Greek ancestry rather than a French Canadian so we needn't worry that we're signing him because of things unrelated to his actual play on the ice. He produced pretty well on a team even shittier than ours, with crap linemates.

And, of course, he went to BU, just like Lane and Celebrini, who Habsy assures us will be ours. If he even passed through Boston for a cup of coffee at Dunkin' Donuts, Hughes probably has some sort of connection with him.

Can you imagine if we acquired him AND won the Celebrini sweepstakes?
Just jinxed it again. You're like a well of darkness and dank.

Here are the ifs on zegras

IF he's really available
IF acquisition cost isn't prohibitive
IF HuGo feel they can handle the little malaka (just bring in his Yia Yia and let her teach the little snot)

He'll be a hab. Too much smoke.

Caufield significantly improved his board play, puck pursuit and play without the puck. He’s not a turnover machine. I would expect the same for Zegras if we want a championship calibre team.

No he said he’s retired from coaching
Of course he says he's retired from coaching. Jacques Martin was retired from coaching too. So was Pat Quinn. These guys don't know how to do anything else. So Therrien is retired only because he can't get a gig. But if someone offered, he'd be there with bells on.

Bingo!! Thank you.

Caufield was a turnover machine & shied away from any type of board play but the Gen Z hockey whisperer got through to him…
