Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

I’ll say that during the 20 1516 season Babcock had the leafs playing a very discipline system. They were competitive game in and game out and had the worst record in the league. They got Matthew’s and everything was looking great.

But then the egos and pay scales took over and here we are almost a decade later, and they have one series win to hang their hats on.

Bottom line they don’t make the turnaround from 2016 to 2017 without that discipline that was installed by Babcock. No way.

The system he wants to employ requires a high level of IQ. If he doesn’t have the team for it, then fucking drop it. Why accumulate the losses for the point of coaching like you wished hockey to be played. It doesn’t necessarily produce winning hockey.

They’re trying to galaxy brain this thing and it’s not that difficult to be competitive from where they are today (this offseason). Start adding pieces because we have the cap room, the draft capital And prospects to add key players and start to move the standings. At the very least start acquiring pieces that can play the system.
Maybe it's the year where they start filtering out the players that can or can't play the system and move from it.

But MSL needs to instill more discipline and work ethic from his team, he's way too complacent, and in return the players are being too complacent as well.

If he wants to be liked then he will get fired.

When HUGO came on they made all these statements about using analytics and have a whole department built around that to make decisions as it relates to performance and acquisitions.

But of course we don’t have enough smart people asking the right questions in the media so no one asked them. How are they expected to operationalize this whole endeavor? How will the information flow would go from the department to the decision makers? What are the key attributes they would be looking for in terms of matrix? Who sees what in terms of RACI?

Obviously, you can’t give away your secrets but there’s only two or three ways you can do this with the data that’s available with advanced stats and what not.

I am nerdy like that but not everyone is.

It may be totally irrelevant to how he coaches this team but he seemed EXACTLY the same when he was coaching his '08 MFF team against my son's team. He might just be a very chill guy - he's definitely not Torts or Berube. Just saying.

You can be chill but firm with your expectations. He keeps talking about non-negotiables, yet I'm seeing players cheating all over the ice with no consequences.

8 is out for the Crapitals so we have a shot.

We usually play Winnipeg hard but yeah probably down 5-0 after 1 in that game
8 is dogshit now. All he does is stand by the dot waiting for one timers. Aside from that hes a liability. He's given up trying to be a hockey player anymore. He's just hanging around waiting to hit the number. Caps are better without him.

Keep purging the expiring vets first and dont waste cap dollars because we have the room

Team is nowhere ready to compete , this is a marathon not a sprint

Fuck the NERO patching BS , stay the course with development and no more overpaying bottom 6 like the trash they are trying to move now

This was true in previous years but he’s more engaged this year. His fancy numbers confirms it.

You need vets though, but you need the right vets at the right contracts. Monahan was a good vet. We didn't have any one in the top 6 this year and it's been a problem.

Monahan wasn't that big of a risk......he was gonna sign at a reasonable cap hit. What scared teams was his injuries....but when he plays, he's worth his cap hit....

So low risk....if he gets injured, he's on IR and doesn't count on the cap....when he's playing, he's worth the cap hit. Which is the complete opposite of guys like Gally/Anderson.

HUGO probably thought Dach would replace Monahan....

I’m not having much issues with Gallagher and Anderson this season. But I’m having issues with having only 2, now 3, players deserving of top 6 minutes.

Thats the issue the right vet at the right number , no more Armia contracts

5 years for Mony is a non starter

You still have to absorb his cap hit in the offseason to get cap relief, it is dead cap money

He’s not been good, just better than Dach and Newhook. 2 goals, on pace for an 8 goals season with top 6 time and PP1 time? He’s been so bad that Kent Hughes had to have a talk with him telling him to wake the fuck up. I don’t think I’ve seen the player from last year even once.
20 has to be a core piece moving forward and needs to get his ass moving .

Even douchebag Wright has more goals
