Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Not even sure why I invest time some days to even start watching the games.

Team can’t defend for shit. This is the 4th year of we can’t defend. It’s on the coach.

Our pp and pk improved after half a decade because the guy handling it left. It’s on the coaching staff. Sorry.

No accountability for the players. Say what you want to about Torts but he does hold his players accountable, even if they’re stars. Marty, not so much.

When it’s this bad/systemic it’s both.

The players disgraced themselves last night and their mega culpas afterwards were just vacuous bullshit. I question their willingness to compete and professionalism. I also question whether Suzuki should be the C, but I doubt that matters much.

MSL also spouted empty bullshit. He might get fired. Or Robidas. Or both.

The next move belongs to HuGo, IMO, because neither the coaches or players are capable of resolving matters, that much is clear. Maybe they’re also painted into corner and can only undertake limited measures, but they ball is in their court and this is a test of their leadership.

He wants to be nice. He wants them to play, not the way hockey is supposed to be played or how he was made to play when the teams he played on were successful, but rather play hockey how he wished it was played.

That’s some Disney fantasy shit that we are being subjected to right now.

Yup. Getting blown out at home badly once every two weeks is not normal. There’s only so many Rangers or golden Knights or Kraken or Pens games one can have before it’s apparent.

Rebuilds are dangerous if you don’t come out of them quickly otherwise it’s perpetual for a decade or more. We are now seven years in if you count the last regime minus the cup final appearance.

You can't count the last regime. The last regime was never doing a rebuild. They were just bad.

Disney is the root cause of many of the world's problems.

HuGo need to tell Marty that his assistants are all getting replaced by more experienced ones. It was dumb to hire a rookie head coach and then surround him with neophytes. Clowns like Alex Burrows couldn't teach a pig how to get dirty. He was a garbage, ECHL caliber player and his coaching acumen is about the same. Id fire them all and surround Marty with more credible assistants.

Yeah, Marty looks like he watched too much Ted Lasso and is using some cutesy innovative defensive strategy thought up by someone who doesn't know the rules of the sport.

I think MSL is dealing with a problem of his own making, but I attribute meltdowns like last night to feckless Fredo hockey by the players. They caved.

The team is not well coached and I have concerns over the handling of Slafkovsky.

Why? You said it's on the players.

Like I said, hiring MSL was an interesting experiment, and so far it doesn't seem to be working which is pretty common.

If MSL can't find a way out of this mess, he will be replaced

And hopefully that brings accountability down on the players. They are loser zombies, going through the motions and getting paid a shit ton.

It’s not a new defensive scheme. Just not the easiest to learn for young players.

I still think it was a calculated move as the honeymoon lasted quite some time with MSL. You can see the tarnish appearing now however.
